he obviously thinks garza is just a regular white guy.

Garza gets a pass - he doesn't know Spanish.

The smugness really shines through in that picture.

How the hell could anyone possibly think Reed [expletive] Johnson is good or young enough to build around. The guy is 35 and he looks like he's 42.

I'm kinda thankful knowing that even our worst posters are not nearly as bad as they could be.

Jonathan Mayo just said on MLB Network that Arodys Viscaino is our #3 prospect behind Brett Jackson and Javier Baez.

Jackson ahead of Almora and Soler?

What do you guys think of Mayo?

Jonathan Mayo clearly hasn't been paying attention to the Cubs minor league system

Jonathan Mayo apparently forgot Albert Almora and Jorge Soler exist.

Judging by that statement alone, I don't think he's worth listening to on the Cubs' farm system.

I've kinda of mentally slotted Vizcaino at No. 4, in his own tier behind Soler/Almora/Baez and ahead of the rest of the pack. If he is healthy by the middle of next year, he could be joining that top tier.

I don't think Mayo is rating 2012 draft picks yet, which would imply he wouldn't rate Soler either.

I'm with Kyle -

1. Baez

2. Almora

3. Soler

4. Vizcaino

---

5. Jackson

Baseball America Trade Central[/url]"]Arodys Vizcaino, rhp

Vizcaino possesses the raw stuff to justify the hype, but also the injury history to explain why the Yankees and Braves were willing to trade him. He had Tommy John surgery toward the end of spring training and could be ready to resume throwing in earnest during spring training 2013. When right, Vizcaino sits 94-97 mph out of the bullpen and leans on a big-breaking, low-80s curveball as an out-pitch. He won't need his fringy changeup much if the Cubs continue to deploy him as a reliever. Assuming he regains his velocity, Vizcaino has closer stuff, and only fastball command stands in the way of him becoming a great reliever instead of a merely good one.

Jaye Chapman, rhp

Chapman is the rare righthander whose changeup functions as his out-pitch, but it's so good—many scouts grade it as a 60 on the 20-to-80 scouting scale—that he could carve out a big league career in middle relief. He ranked fifth among International League relievers with 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings at the time of the trade. Chapman scrapes 90 mph with a fringe fastball and typically sits 87-89, doing a good job locating the ball down in the strike zone. His lack of velocity disallows him from working above the knees. Chapman works in on lefty batters with a fringy, low-80s slider, but they actually hit him hard in Triple-A this season (.298/.394/.457 in 94 at-bats) after managing just a .636 OPS at the same level last year. A member of Atlanta's 40-man roster, Chapman has two option years remaining after this season.

On today's podcast Law said that he doesnt consider Viczaino to have history of multiple injuries, just the elbow ligament. Something to the effect that he missed time in the past when they were trying to rehab the elbow before giving up and finally doing TJS.

"KLAW, out of curiosity would you rather have Randall Delgado than Vizcaino?"

"K_Law

Vizcaino, by a mile."

Arodys Vizcaino. "@clvolckmann: @keithlaw who was the highest rated prospect dealt at the deadline?"

I think Law likes Vizcaino.

ba ranked vizcaino 3rd and villanueva 5th

i remember seeing vizcaino during last year's futures game and being reeeeeaaaaaally impressed with his stuff. i don't know if he's a starter or a closer but he most certainly has a big league arm. or at the very least had one that hopefully wasn't left on the operating table.

Without the injury, there's no question. My only reservation is that while we may have all the medical records in the world, The Braves are more familiar with his recovery situation. It just seems that if his recovery was coming along perfectly, they wouldn't have traded a guy with ace potential for a mid rotation at best starter (yes, even if we did include Reed Johnson) no matter how much money we picked up. If so, teams would be lining up with better pitchers than Maholm for him. Nobody finds it weird that despite tw difference in their current seasons, the Twins got a pile of junk for Liriano and we got a top 50 prospect for Maholm?

Yea, I listened to his podcast as well. Law's definitely a huge fan of this trade from the Cubs' perspective. He also mentioned that the current recovery rate for TJS is around 85% and that Vizcaino's TJS could have the effect of "cleaning out once and for all" all of the elbow problems he experienced previously.

I might have this concern if the Delgado trade hadn't been agreed to. Taking both trades into account, Atlanta simply looked like a desperate team willing to overpay from a position of depth for a major league need. Theo simply took advantage of that.

There's also the matter of Maholm pitching very well this season and being under control for another season on a very team friendly deal, while Liriano has struggled over the entirety of the season and is a rental.
