I love this guy. I'd love to contribute a more well thought out post, but, I'd rather the Darwin love flow through you all. Thief in the night defensively.

He'd be the best defensive SS in the league by UZR, if the Cubs didn't already have the best defensive SS in the league by UZR.

I spent way too much of last year being completely annoyed with his being on the roster because he was, as I think someone once referred to him, a "nonprospect". But as a cheap young option, he's turned out to be terrific. I apologize, Darwin Barney.

He's been the biggest reason I've come to accept the futility of projecting MLB stats just from minor league slash lines. Certain types of players and mixes of tools play up better than others. He's basically been the same hitter every step since Peoria.

3.8 WAR this season so far. That's the [expletive]. If he doesn't get a gold glove, it's robbery.

he won't win it. he doesn't hit enough HR's

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=41293&p=1358573#p1358573

Meph's wish list looks like it'd be coming in handy right about now, lol

wow. were those players actually available at those picks or was he just mocking guys?

that's pretty impressive.

EDIT - Also... chocolate milk :(

and sort of depressing to read some of the scouting reports on vitters

Yup... Heyward went 14th overall, though IIRC teams passed on him because he made it clear he would only play for the Braves. Am I wrong on that?

So yeah... his wish list compared with who we actually took...

Heyward -> Vitters

Burgess -> Josh Donaldson (though Burgess is in our system now, and Donaldson helped us get Harden)

Middlebrooks -> Tony Thomas (Both players in Boston's system, ironically. Thomas was the 97th overall pick. Middlebrooks fell to 174th [5th round])

Carpenter -> Barney (We got 'em both... and then dealt Carpenter to Boston for Theo. Thanks Chris)

Heh, I changed the title - had no idea it'd show on the main page.

Back to random Darwin facts - did you know he's an accomplished pianist and can play totally by ear? He also once killed a shark with his own hands.
