Hey, some guys that can strike out a hitter! I think I'm spoiled from about 5-10 years ago, where the Cubs were striking out everybody in the minors and majors. But not coincedentally, they were also bringing up solid pitchers back then too.

Tayler Scott:

MiLB.com"]The Chicago Cubs' 2011 fifth-round pick said the hardest adjustment has been the number of innings he's had to pitch compared to his high school days. As the number of pitches he throws continues to increase, it becomes harder to maintain his stamina and keep his mechanics consistent. For that, he relies on his athleticism.

Hawks pitching coach David Rosario said that considering Scott's age and experience with baseball, he has some of the best mechanics he's ever seen. The biggest roadblock Scott may encounter is dealing with adversity, something that every young player experiences.

But so far, so good.

"He's really tough for a young guy," Rosario said. "He's always willing to work and make adjustments in everything we do, and to me, that's one of the hardest things to find in the young kids."

Marco Hernandez:

Idaho Press-Tribune"]“He’s got all of the tools,” Hawks batting coach Bill Buckner said. “His swings are good, all of his tools are really good, so he should be a really good player.”

There’s only one problem.

“He’s underachieving,” Buckner said.

...

Hernandez said his lack of patience at the plate — swinging at pitches outside of the strike zone — have hindered him this season.

“I haven’t been able to walk a lot and I’ve been getting out in early counts a lot just because of aggressiveness,” Hernandez said through translator David Rosario, the Hawks' pitching coach. “I have to learn to be more selective.”

Bijan Rademacher:

Idaho Press-Tribune"]He was the fourth center fielder the Hawks have used this season, a signal of a change in Boise’s outfield. After starting 12 of the first 14 games in center field, Shawon Dunston Jr. has been moved to left field. Trey Martin started five straight games in center and Hawks manager Mark Johnson felt Martin needed Wednesday off. That left Rademacher to fill the void, something he’ll be called on to do at left, center and right field this season.

Rademacher said his versatility in the outfield comes from college and high school coaches teaching him to get proper angles on the ball and how each spot is different.

“I like to think I’m a more balanced player, but if I had to pick one spot that separates me from another outfielder, I would say arm strength and arm accuracy,” Rademacher said.

Which arm?

“My left,” he said.

Rademacher also was a left-handed pitcher in college and said he’s topped out at 95 mph and can hit 88 mph with his right arm. He said he never learned to throw with both arms, it was just instinctual to use both arms as a child.

“When I picked up a baseball, I threw it left-handed and if I picked up a football, I threw it right-handed,” he said. “It was just natural for me. I didn’t know if I was supposed to throw with my left or I was supposed to be right. I just pick it up and start throwing it.”

...

“(He’s) swinging the bat really well,” Johnson said. “He seems to put together good at-bats together every time and he’s got a little sneaky power in there and runs pretty well.”

Badler is getting ready to have a chat. If anyone wants to pepper him with some Cubs questions, I'm asking about Candelario, about Geiger, and a general IFA outlook for us going forward this year.

Interesting on Scott. Clearly a very long-term project. He's going to take some patience. The note on mechanics and teachability/work ethic, though, those are pretty encouraging.

Heh, funny on Marco. Kind of sad when supposedly our best defensive infielder has 8 errors in a couple weeks in Boise. AFter all the angst about him getting send down from Peoria and how good he'd been doing recently and how unfair/regrettable it is, it's certainly been clear that he doesn't lack for challenge at Boise. He's clearly not been overqualified or under-challenged there, that's for sure.

Kinda wondering why Lake didnt play in the first game of the double header. Is he hurt? Did I miss something? Watkins played SS.

Lake could just be getting game one off since they're playing two.

He's in the lineup for Game 2. Batting 3rd, playing 3rd.

Baseball America has his gamelog, and it almost seems like his defensive position is scheduled. He's consistently done 4-5 games at SS, followed by back-to-back games at 3B, before going back to SS.

Just looking at the stats. When should Vogelbach see Bosie?

Honestly, I think he skips Boise and heads to Peoria in a week or two. Either way, I can't see him staying in Arizona too much longer.

Szczur is cold as [expletive] now. From the : we need to break his legs department" Rubi Silva has found success at stealing tonight, in his mind anyway, going 1-2. Now 7-23 on the year.

That could work. I just assume that they want to get Vogelbach reps at 1B.
