Geiger has 3 more errors tonight. At 11 now for the year. Is he a guy not supposed to be able to stick?

He's less likely to stick than Vitters or Candelario.

I love what Vitters is doing, but am disappointed to hear the comments from Law, Callis, and Badler over the last day or two. I'm surprised they don't see much of an upside at this point.

We'll see how they assess Vitters at the end of the season if he continues this run since a) he'd basically have a nearly full season of playing this well and b) they'll actually confer with multiple scouts about him and won't be operating on old scouting reports (like they *possibly* are currently).

cooper seemed to be the guy who was down on him the most, but i think it has to do with the fact that they can't get over his rather ordinary history. he's come out of nowhere this season, and that, to a point, i think has baffled them. they don't know what to make of him so are in a holding pattern regarding his potential.

Exactly....So far he has an entire career of under performing expectations and 2 months of raking it. I think the majority of these guys wrote off Vitters for good and are skeptical of his emergence. If he can finish the year hitting like this I think they will be back on the Vitters bandwagon.

Will they please just move Saunders up, so he can start sucking and I can quit thinking about that article proclaiming him to be better at baseball than anyone has ever been at anything.

Candelario with 2 hits tonight. dunston and martin are struggling big time

And one of those two hits is a double.

If you combine Dunston and Martin's batting averages, you have a .300 hitter.

That's my hunch too on some of the comments. I think Vitters was somewhat off the radar for them.

I'm not the biggest Vitters fan, but he's definitely improved this year.

Not the best day for me to make it here to talk about Stephen Bruno, but let me just reiterate how big a fan I am of Bruno's potential. Sort of sucks that he's in our system in that I think he can play short, but considering he's not that much younger than Starlin, well his future in our system isn't there.

A bit concerned about the lack of walks so far, so that'll be something to watch, but the kid can hit, he's got pop in the bat, and he should be solid defensively at 2nd. There's an obvious comp that I won't make (obviously in saying it ... I sort of did anyways) as the ceiling is too high for me to want to make the comp, but I'm a big, big fan.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind seeing him in Peoria later this year if he keeps hitting. With his versatility, there's got to be a way to find him some AB's if they wanted to move him up.

_____

Geiger's arm could make him a candidate for RF if the bat develops. At least, off the top, I think he has a good arm.

_____

Sappelt's on a nice little run. If he does well down the stretch, might as well and give him a late look and keep him in the picture in 2013. I think he's more of a Sam Fuld type, but in a rebuilding year ... well ... if it keeps Campana on the bench, I'm game as a fan.

Loosen's ready for Tennessee.

7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K.

YES

I guess Struck could get another crack at AAA and Loosen could take his spot. Then again, Beeler, Rhee, or McNutt could each be candidates for demotion.

I really think that a lot of the people, including experts who are so down on Vitters seem to forget that despite the fact that he's been a roller coaster for nearly 5 years now, he's one of the younger guys in AAA.

I think it's time for McNutt to go to the pen. Maybe that's reactionary frustration, and maybe he should be given more time considering his ceiling, but I'm just not sure he has it to be a starter.

There's definitely room in Iowa's rotation to move Struck up. Rusin, Raley, Wells, Coleman get spots. They've been piecing together the 5th spot.

As an aside, I'd really like to hear how Jay Jackson's slider is looking these days. Once upon a time, I thought Jay Jackson could be a late inning arm. Of course, back then, I was still excited about him as a starter.

I believe I've heard the same on Geiger having a quality arm.

I'd like to see Bruno up to Peoria too. He should be able to handle it and I wouldn't mind seeing him start at Daytona next year if he does well in Peoria this season.

The more I follow the minors the less I care about national pundits. BA obsesses over athleticism and ceiling, and the rest just regurgitate old news consensus. The minors are too big for these guys to be experts to the degree we would like.

Vitters has plenty of ceiling and has clearly improved his approach.

Law was an idiot for making the Pierre comp but I do worry that Szczur lacks power and it will keep him from progressing.

Szczur hit 10 homers last year. I think that the concentration on discipline probably has quite a bit to do with his lack of homers. His extra base hits, as a total, are in line with last year.
