Hairston has such a 'roided-out, pro wrestler look going on with his head/face.

kind of cross eyed too

That Marmol trade Value has gotta be going up a little. It's going to be fun as hell watching Rizzo for years to come. Can't wait for Vitters and Jackson to come along to and watch all these guys play together in The Show.

If the Cubs end up trading Garza I'm really going to miss his enthusiasm. He just seems like a really fun guy. I agree, though, he should be traded if the right package is offered.

I can't get over how interesting this season has been so far. Yes they are on pace for something like 58 wins all year, but there is always so much going on, and something to look forward to every game.

I never thought I could enjoy a pathetically bad team so much.

If a team claims Marmol in August, do you let him go?

Hmm that's a decent question. I'd say no because A) There isn't necessarily a need to cut costs at this point as the Cubs are already operating at a lower payroll than the previous few years and there are significant contracts coming off the books after this year and given that B) the Cubs might get something decent for Marmol if he can finish this year strong and the Cubs are willing to eat a lot of the money. If it were this time next season and Marmol was struggling still, then yeah.

lol, Mets announcers don't understand that you can't touch the umps.

Is that what happened ?? Pat & Keith never mentioned that !

It wasn't that blatant. Kinda grazed him with his glove when he threw his hands up in disgust.

Oh, it was blatant. He was poking him with his glove; basically like you would if you were grabbing someone's arm as you were talking to them.

It looked like he was tagging him for emphasis.

Holy balls a million times yes. He's due $9.8 million next year.

Gonna have to agree here, got to get rid of him if given the opportunity.

if we get marmol off the books, maybe next year we can buy an olive garden instead of a mcdonalds

This means nothing, but I thought it was funny that the Mets' announcers were talking about the bleachers as if they opened 3 hours before the game (they don't) and that there were lines of oodles of people waiting to get in long before that (there haven't been at any game I've been to in 6 years). But then I assume most visiting announcers are similarly misinformed.

Speaking of the Mets announcers, they are some of the most colossal douches I've ever heard, and I listen to a lot of the announcers because of EI.

The best is Keith Hernandez, he's basically just like he was portrayed in Seinfeld.

Their announcers use a condescending tone about the Cubs every time they meet, which is funny because they work for the Mets, one of the most dysfunctional organizations in sports the past 10 years.

I dunno. I feel the same way as UMF, but I just can't put my finger on it. I've watched more Cubs baseball this year than the past three years combined, and this team is worse than any of them.

Me too -- it's just nice to know they are terrible but don't have a total knucklehead running the team anymore.

And they typically lose due to talent not ungodly, circus like activity happening on the field.

I won't lump 2009 in with the other two, but I agree too.

The 2010 and 2011 teams were for the most part bad, underachieving teams partly made up of aging remnants of the 2008 team. As a fan, I was increasingly losing what little faith I had left in Hendry to right the ship, the team seemed to have no long term plan, the farm system was mediocre to poor, and there were numerous bad contracts clogging up the payroll limiting what we could do in the near future.

So no enjoyment of the present, no trust in leadership, bleak future prospects = uninteresting teams.

This year we have leadership we feel good about, we have a real long term plan, the number of bad contracts are down to 1 after this year, the team is partly made up of players who have at least some level of potential and for the most part a ceiling that hasn't been hit yet (Castro, Barney, Rizzo, LaHair, Shark, Russell, Garza, even Stewart although hopes are dwindling pretty low right now), and the farm system has made a decent leap over the last year and although almost all are in low minors, they give legit hope for the future.

So while the team might be bad, its not because Aramis is declining, Zambrano is throwing tantrums and gifting black guys to Milton Bradley, etc. It's bad because its a young team that is collectively not talented enough but has individually talented parts that are worth watching grow.

It's also been interesting watching Dempster become an increasingly valuable trade piece, Castro improve his defense, Barney hitting well enough and playing great defense, Shark (at least to start the year) look like a legit piece, LaHair's power surge to start the year, Garza throwing to first base, the persuit of Solar, the rise of Rizzo in the minors and the anticipation for his first game, the June draft. There's just been a lot to be interested in IMO.

There's hope for the organization but the team itself hasn't been the least bit interesting. Lahair has a ceiling he hasn't hit? Garza? I'll give you Castro, and now Rizzo, as well as Shark. But 2 of 3 of those guys were here last year and Rizzo just showed up. Recent teams weren't bad because Zambrano was throwing tantrums. This team is bad because they have a bunch of bad baseball players, not a bunch of guys who just aren't at their peak yet.

The product on the field has not been interesting. There's hope for the future because of the people who are in charge and some of the talent they have brought to the system, but you are deluding yourself if you try and pretend this baseball team has been interesting. They just suck at baseball.

I think Garza's perfect season would involve someone new to the team doing something good every day so he could always have an excuse to distribute pies to the face.
