My theory about Hawk is that he's not actually silent when the opposing team does something good, he's just swearing up a storm in the booth and the network just mutes him for five minutes.

Every time I hear a White Sox broadcast, Hawk sounds sounds less like a professional broadcaster and more like the drunken, over the top intense, potentially dangerous middle aged guy watching the game alone at the bar that you desperately try to avoid making any kind of eye contact with.

Hawk might just be the worst broadcaster in the history of baseball

might?

Well, there's a lot of baseball history, and you probably had at least a few ranting about "ethnics" over the years.

I've said it before, but Hawk is a guy who should be limited to local radio. His homerism has no business reaching beyond the home town fans (well, it has no business reaching anyone, but what can you do).

He's like Ronnie was, only he's a piece of [expletive].

Hahahahahaahahahahaha. EPIC.

The worst part tho is he sorta has a point.

No he doesn't and like pretty much everything Hawk talks about, he's wrong. Pierzynski could have broken Zobrist's ankle with his slide yesterday and I wouldn't have faulted Zobrist one bit if he would have gone Michael Barrett and decked Pierzynski. The wasn't a takeout slide, it was total bush league.

Pierzynski deserved to get plunked, he did, and that should have been the end of it. Instead, that moron Sox pitcher decided to try to hit Zobrist, which he couldn't even do successfully. He deserved to get tossed and he did because it was completely unnecessary.

I am saying the part where he mentioned umpires need to be held responsible. not necessarily for that part but overall.

Ah, ok. In that case, I agree.

Most Sox fan you run into like the guy even less than anyone else. Watching someone else's drunk dad making a fool out of himself in public may be awkwword, but I guess when it's your own, it's 100% worse.

Definitely don't think this is true.

Most Sox fans I know seem to love the guy. I can't stand listening to him. My Sox fan friend and I watched the Cubs vs Sox together and agreed that whoever was hitting was the announcers we would watch, and Hawk was brutal.

This.

I don't understand why so many people think Hawk was right about this. At least this morning on the Score Hawk said that warnings should have been issued after AJ got plunked (which he admitted he deserved). I agree with that, but the lack of a warning doesn't mean it isn't within the ump's judgement to toss someone for blatantly going after somebody. Wegner was well within his right to judge intent, and there was absolutely intent.

Hawk's the one who should go to umpiring school and learn the rules.

Yeah, all of the radio bits I've heard today about this have been reliably meatball-y and only mention A.J. getting plunked and not that it was in retaliation for the slide.

The trib has a video with their sports editor more or less talking about how great it is, and he only mentions AJ getting hit, and their article doesn't mention the slide either. I'm not away of the slide other than what people wrote here and don't really care, but a pitcher getting thrown out for throwing behind a hitter is not the least bit new.

Can someone link me to the slide? I can't seem to find it.
