I can't even remember what they got for him. Which is probably a bad sign.

Of the six players they got for Cabrera and Willis, not one of them is still with Florida, and only three of them have appeared in MLB games this season.

They did trade Cameron Maybin to the Padres for two not horrible middle relievers that are currently on the team, but those are basically the only assets on the team that are remnants of the Cabrera/Willis trade.

What do people think is a realistic projection for Castro's prime?

What do people think is a realistic projection for Castro's prime?

.320/.360/.500 with 20 (give or take 2 or 4) HRs, lots of doubles, 20 SB, and average D at SS. Problem is I might have just made that up.

Sickels put this out in September 2010, and to be honest, Starlin hasn't done much yet to really swing it one way or another (short answer: it's really impossible to tell, absent any knowledge of what his walk rates, future build will look like):

I find it unusual that the Sickels projection, outside of 2015 and 2017, has Castro no where close to 200 hits... after he had 207 hits last year.

Assuming the run environment is static?

330/400/540

You're assuming one heck of a progression in patience.

He is 22 years old. It's his sixth year of playing organized baseball.

Seriously, WSR is right. As bad of an article as it is and as much as I want Castro here, if the O's offered Bundy and Machado, I can't see any reason to turn that down. No matter how bullheaded I sounded earlier. That said, no chance Baltimore would entertain that and I don't blame them.

Both are too far away for me to take just them for Castro. Throw in Weiters/Jones + Matusz for the hell of it and I'd think about it.

I don't WANT to deal Castro, but Machado is 19 and OPSing over .800 in AA and we all know what bundy's doing. My guess is both hit the majors next year.

I find it unusual that the Sickels projection has Castro randomly playing for the White Sox, Cardinals and Braves for 6 years at the end of his career.

I also find it weird he's going to hit .260 when he's 26.

Cano: 551 PA, .297/.320/.458, 2.9% BB, 12.3% K - 10.4% HR/FB

Cano had a .271/.305/.410 age-25 season

How legitimate a comp do you think Cano is for Castro? Keep in mind that Cano probably gets a power boost from his home park and it's short porch in RF (didn't check his splits).

And Machado has less than 200 PAs above A ball, and Bundy has 30 innings all at A ball. I'm not saying TINSTAAP, but I'd like to see guys perform at a higher level before trading away a 22 year old all-star SS under team control for 4.5 more years.

The Castro/Cano comp isn't bad. Early part of Cano's career was pretty similar to Castro's currently. Cano had considerably more power, but Castro more speed. I would say Castro's prime would be about Cano's 2007 season (which is almost identical to how Cano has started this season).

.305-.320 avg/.350-.365 OBP/.470-.485 SLG. low-mid 800s OPS.

I apologize, but I haven't completely gone through this thread and wanted to put my 2 cents in.

First, I am not against any idea. When you are in the position we are in ... then everything needs to be on the table. Everything. That doesn't mean you do the first thing that comes along that sounds good, but if a deal is one you can't turn down ... well ... you can't turn it down. That said ... it'd take a whopper of a deal for me to part with Castro. Two high end guys alone wouldn't be enough. It would have to be two elite guys, one in the upper levels (I'm talking, say, Shelby Miller/Oscar Tavares and a couple more pieces, not that that would happen). We're talking about a guy who can stay at short for at least 3-5 more years and be a prime offensive contributor. Now, if they "blank checked it", then maybe I wouldn't care as much on the quality of the high end talent.

2nd ... is Olney trying to suggest that the Castro trade would be less than the Hanley trade? Because if so ... that's ... odd. Hanley was an unproven prospect. Starlin's proven and young.

3rd, I've always compared Castro to Cano coming up. I'm not sure his power will peak at Cano's current levels, but their swings are vaguely similar, and it's easy to forget ... Cano coming up was viewed as a high contact guy with some questions on his power.

Personally, I doubt there is a deal out there that an opposing team would realistically do that would make me inclined to deal Castro.

WHY THE [expletive] DID NO ONE TELL ME THAT PSD IS MOSTLY NOT THAT BRIGHT?!?!

Restore me to sanity please...Matt Davidson/Trevor Bauer/Tyler Skaggs...still no, right? Right? Wtf is a Matt Davidson?

Okay ... go ahead and question my sanity ... but that would be an awfully tempting package. I'd have to ponder it some more ... and I'd want a secondary piece or two thrown in there, but Davidson has really taken off and is probably one of the top 3rd base prospects in the minors. That's 1 elite prospect (Bauer), 2 really high quality talents.

There is absolutely zero chance that I think that happens, though.

I'd definitely consider a Bundy/Machado deal ... but I'd need more. I have high doubts Bundy sees the bigs next year, unless it's just for a September call-up to get him wet. Hard to get him enough work without over-doing it, akin to the Cashner innings-build up problem of a couple seasons ago.

As a side note, I don't think Baltimore would trade Wieters for Castro straight up, and I don't think the Cubs would trade Castro for Wieters straight up.

Call ME crazy but like Skaggs better than Bauer.

Theyd still have to improve the deal.
