My point is that Trumbo has been spectacularly lucky to put up the numbers he has, and is very unlikely to continue anywhere close to where he has performed thus far.

Scioscia also couldn't live without Jeff Mathis until he had his toy taken away from him. He's a giant meatball jock doofus.

pretty sure that when you originally ripped him, he hadn't played a game yet, so luck was tough to judge.

Yes, he will obviously fall on his babip...that's above hamilton and kemp territory by a lot.

As that falls, it will effect his average and possibly some slugging (don't know what ones will be caught)

But I find it tough to disregard a player based on 40 games of great babip, when he has 5-6 years of stats that say he should improve his OB% and OPS over last year.

you totally disregard data because it goes against your thought and grab a stat that "may" help your argument.

Evidently we should stop spending money on scouts and just look at babip for the start of a season and get those players.

I only injected Trumbo into the conversation to attempt to point out that you can actually be incorrect on a player. As can anyone, Theo and Scioscia included. Now I see that you were actually right on Trumbo and despite his start, he won't be a player, and he won't improve on last year. We certainly should have held onto to Marmol and not taken a flyer on a 26 year kid that I thought showed some promise because we are so stacked with young guys.

Oh and we are paying Mather 10k less than Trumbo makes. How stupid of me!

Don't know what you are arguing. please clarify.

You are comparing Stewart and Trumbo not me,

I did not say I want Trumbo at 3rd. Right now he is playing outfield because vernon wells and hunter are out.

I simply pointed out that you seriously missed on Trumbo.

Yes, his Babip has to fall VERY WELL NOTED! that's a crazy line. If that is your argument, you win.

Are you saying that Trumbo for Marmol was still a dumb idea?

Are you saying that he won't improve his ob% and ops this year- because that's what you were saying in january.

Are you saying the upside of Cardenas, Mather and valbuena is better than Trumbo? because that's who is on the 40 man at about the same cost.

I'm saying it's very strange that you think Ian Stewart is a piddling pile of crap, and felt the need to introduce Mark Trumbo as some sort of gotcha when the 2 have similar peripherals on the season.

ryan seriously, let's ease up. I do not think he is a piece of crap. I think his historical numbers and my overly negative feelings (which I will fully admit probably are swayed by looking at his former stats) say he won't hit better than his norms.

My other thought is that Trumbo could be a pretty good hitter and that his stats show that.

I told I don't want to trade those two, or have him replace stewart. OK?

I also said I see the argument of how we could see some improvement in stewart's lines. I still think it won't happen but I can understand how it could.

I know Trumbo's line will fall but in his 2nd season there is no reason and no data that says he won't improve this year. Particularily in

the ob% area. It can't/won't be to what he did in the first 40 but I don't see how you could mind having him on our roster.

Now the best argument made was there is no way in heck they would make that deal. Hard to argue but say he blows or his ob% is too low after 1 year is silly.(i don't think you said that ryan, but someone did) I mean if we are happy to pick up Cardenas then doesn't Trumbo have at least that much upside?

Right now, people are arguing over Dejesus and stewart. I guess since there is nothing else going on it keeps things going on here (the game thread went like 3 pages?) but you guys are arguing with me over statements that I didn't make. I never said replace dejesus or stewart. There is no one else even close to being ready at 3rd. We all know each is a stop gap with low cost, and lots more possible ups than negatives. It's highly unlikely that either is here in 2014, but stewart could if he does get to those numbers that you guys are hoping for.

I simply thought and still think that in a season where we have no chance of doing anything that it makes sense to look to guys that could be here or could show improvement. (and by that I mean back to their career norms but that they are young enough or inexperienced enough to IMPROVE their career norms)

But this whole thing has been about you being pissed off that Barney has been somehow slighted while DeJesus and Stewart somehow are better candidates for slighting.

I knew this team was bad, but not "worst team in baseball" bad. Holy crap.

Remember all the [expletive] they gave you back when you dared suggest that this could be a 100 loss team?

I still don't think it is.

Because the team is pretty much devoid of good players (with a few exceptions?)

They're still not even on pace to lose 100 games through pythag. It's not going to happen.

Not to mention that with Volstad out, we don't even have one bad starting pitcher at this point.

Hill did bunt right back to the pitcher who easily got the out at 2nd.

Ironclad logic. They're a lock to join the plethora of 100-loss seasons.

Beastly...

Cubs manager Dale Sveum said Sunday that Rafael Dolis will be removed from the closer role.

Dolis hit the Pirates' Matt Hague with the bases loaded to force in the winning run Saturday and has been scored upon in five of his last six appearances. He also has a woeful 11/15 K/BB ratio on the year. The Cubs are expected to go with a combination of James Russell and Shawn Camp in the ninth inning.

Maybe it's just me, but I think Russell is better as a setup guy. I don't think the Cubs have anyone on the active roster at the moment that actually is a closer. Camp? Meh.

I don't think anyone ever said they were a lock to lose 100, just that they have a decent shot especially if they back up the truck sooner than later.

So if Russell is to be moved to the closer role, won't they have to call up another lefty? Do they have another in it already? I've lost track of which horrible junk ballers are up at this point.

Maine has been back and forth so far this year, currently in Iowa, I believe. Beliveau is also on the 40-man but he has some talent and it's his first year at AAA so we probably won't see him for awhile.
