Having had a day to process the arguments and discussion on both sides, I think I would pass on Gray over this incident.

His whole ascension to the top of the draft board, when he suddenly could not only hold his fastball velocity late into games but improve it, was already in need of an explanation. Now we have a potential explanation that seems pretty plausible to me.

I now fully expect us to draft Gray followed by Blair

I wish there was a way we could find out if it was a one or two time thing for school or if he's been using them for a year. That's really the deciding factor. I guess you probably have to assume the worst.

Not going to give more details, but there are two pitchers in the consensus top ten I'd red flag if I had that power.

No one cares Will, especially if you're not going to name names.

Beginning to sense #Astros leaning to Appel if $ fit like they want. #mlbdraft

If Appel 1-1, think Gray 1-2. Nothing set in stone. @TheCubsGuy: think the #Cubs go Bryant then? #mlbdraft

Geez, it should be so easy to get their IFA cap space.

Kiley McDaniel[/url]"]Another prep SS in the Trop at the recent workout was local kid Tucker Neuhaus (Louisville signee), though he's more of a 3B professionally. He's been hurt almost the entire spring with a number of temporary ailments but had a loud fall on the showcase circuit and early spring showing. Neuhaus has been making up for lost time hitting double digit workouts for clubs and looks to be in play for a number of clubs starting in the comp round and likely not getting out of the second round. Other interested teams include the Cubs, Cardinals, Brewers, Twins, Blue Jays, Royals, Astros, Marlins and D'Backs.

Atlanta, Pittsburgh and the Cubs have been shadowing Tampa prep RHP Nick Eicholtz (Alabama signee) all spring and could pick him as high as the third round.

Florida RHP Karsten Whitson is still looking for seven figure money but after a cleanup of his shoulder and a lost season, it may be for less than the over $2 million he turned down out of high school. Rumor has it he could be an over slot target for a club that saves some money up top in the early rounds, with Houston, the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland among possible homes.

Allan Simpson and BP's top 25: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=20829#.Ua9LhLHcpt0.twitter

They have Gray first, Appel second.

I'm not subscribed, but I think I saw somewhere else on the site that they have Frazier 3rd and Bryant 7th. Unless it was another writer for them.

In the list linked above, Bryant is #3, Frazier is #4

Thanks. I'll see if I can dig up what I was talking about.

For those unable to watch or find following online to be cumbersome, MLB set up a twitter account that will tweet all the picks.

ABTY thinks the top 10 will go like this. Just his guess based on what he knows:

Astros: Bryant

CUBS: Appel

Rockies: Moran

Twins: McGuire

Tribe: Grey

Marlins: Meadows

Red Sox: Stewart

Royals: Bickford (hearing lock)

Pirates: Ball

Blue Jays: Frazier

Just swapped emails w/2 directors in the top 5 picks & advisor of #1 pick candidate. All have no idea what the Astros will do. Crazy quiet.
