The interesting thing to me about Kerry retiring is that he doesn't appear to have lost his stuff, and he's not so old that he can't still be good for a few more years

There has to be something going on that we don't know about. My guess is he has been dealing with a lot more arm/shoulder pain than he is willing to let on.

I'm guessing it has to do with being bad and being on a bad team.

Boo...so much for that hot streak and the fight to get to .500. We are now at the low water mark for the season at 9 games under .500 (15-24).

He knew going into the season that he was going to be on a bad team. As for being bad, yes he has been bad but it has been more lack of control than anything. I'm pretty sure if his arm was feeling strong he would have wanted to work through his control issues and finish the season rather than just quit.

Reed Johnson pinch hitting against a RHP in the 6th or 7th is an unfortunate consequence of the current bench. Reed Johnson hitting against RHP in the 9th inning is starting to get on my nerves.

Teases two days in a row. [expletive].

3 of the 4 losses on this losing streak have been by 1 run. ugh

Overall, exactly half of our losses this year have been by 2 runs or less (12 out of 24 losses)

Agreed. Your theory makes sense, too, considering he's already been on the DL once this season. He might just feel like his body can't go through a whole season anymore.

It sucks but the competitive games makes me think that with some moves they have a shot at being good next year.

I don't think he saw this team being so bad so early. There was still hope at the time they brought him back that they would actually go out and bring in players to help the team. But they are winning less than 40% of their games and he's been terrible, so I think that plays a part.

Bruce Levine from espn1000 said Kerry has had a slight tear in his rotater cuff for years, not sure how true that is.

they've talked about his arm being held on by a thread ever since the last comeback, so it may be true

There's a lot of pieces we've discovered this season. Samardzija, LaHair and Stewart all look like they could be legitimate contributors going forward. I definitely think they can be a very good team very quickly, if they want to be.

winners wins these types of games

same with last night

You're the worst

The 2008 Cubs would've won it

I'm not implying this team is supposed to win, but it's still as painful as ever to watch.

That's true. It isn't new information tho.
