Baez may bust but the point is still valid. Alcides Escobar was a Top 20 prospect (twice!), the same bias is at play with Lindor.

A scouting report of Will Ferrell:

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/112523810/actor-will-ferrells-scouting-report-talent-evaluators-weigh-in

"He only wore a Halo for one-half of an inning," the scout wrote. "Front-runner. Jumped ship as soon as Angels trailed."

"Who is the scout that signed this guy?" D-backs chief baseball officer Tony La Russa said in a club statement. "We should release him, too."

Padres manager Bud Black -- a big leaguer for 15 years and a pitching coach for five years -- knows a good pitcher when he sees one.

"Ferrell's tough on lefties," Black said. "That's what we were told early on, that we had to send a right-handed bat up there because his assortment of offspeed pitches is very tough on the left-handed hitter."

Regarding the designated hitter going to the National League, I wonder if there's any sort of hybrid approach that would keep a little more strategy in the game. Maybe some rule that the original designated hitter cannot bat more than two times through the lineup before having to be removed? Therefore once you take your starting pitcher out of the lineupand/or the DH comes to bat for the third time that the designated hitter has to be pinch-hit for or something like that. Thoughts?

The only "strategy" that the DH messes with is the double switch.

Well that's simply not true

There were some good ideas shared here a few years ago I remember reading. I like the idea of keeping a DH in your lineup as long as your SP remains in the game, but I remember there being more 'out there' ideas that weren't bad, like letting it up to the home team to decide or something.

Wheeler injury is no surprise to #Mets. They knew he had elbow problems last year and never disclosed it.

Step right up and meet the Mets!

So yeah, definitely gonna be TJ

Mets GM Sandy Alderson acknowledged Monday that Zack Wheeler's right UCL appears fully torn.

So a rehab program isn't even an option for the 24-year-old right-hander. Wheeler will get a second opinion on his injured elbow, but we can go ahead and pencil him in for Tommy John reconstructive surgery and the 12-15 month recovery process that comes with it. Dillon Gee now moves back into the Mets' rotation mix after being dangled in trade talks for much of the winter and spring.

Almost comical

Having been yelled at by Mets' fans for not seeing the value of building a team around pitching, I find it completely comical.

I wonder how that Mets board is reacting to this.

I was tempted to search here to find the link

I went to the last page of that thread to see if anyone had revisited it. Not the case, but instead there's this:

I definitely don't trade Wheeler for Starlin. He's already a solid #2 and there's a real chance he'll be an ace as he grows and becomes more refined.

I'm mixed on Thor for Castro. Keep going back and forth on it. I probably pull the trigger, but I'd like to see what kind of $ the FA SS get first.

if trading the gem of our system, a top 15 prospect power arm for a .777 ops is a great trade, than that just backs up the fact that baseball is fuckin horrible.

If we traded Murphy for Castro, we might not need to add in an arm the quality of Syndergaard. They're getting a good hitter in exchange for a very good hitter who earns less $, so we need to add something. But it's not as if we're trading for Tulowitzki.

if all of our prospects can get us Starlin Castro at best, keep em and cross your fingers b/c [expletive] that

The Wheeler injury thread doesn't have search for unregistered users, and I'm not willing to register just to make it easier to seek out their misery. The above is enough.

It's pretty hilarious. They are simultaneously bemoaning their luck and shouting down anyone who says this *might* be a systemic problem of focusing on pitchers.

"What do you mean we should have traded some of them for bats? But then we'd have even *less* pitching when one gets hurt?"
