Teams that are not in playoff position as of today:

Tampa Bay, Washington, Kansas City, Pittsburgh

Teams that are:

New York Yankees, Milwaukee, Chicago White Sox

Building the "right way" is overrated.

Judging results at the end of April is also overrated.

It's a nice start, but I don't want to rush and overreact to a small sample.

The new Mantle? Kid is so habitually injured he seems fated to never live up to his true potential.

Yes those 2 injuries certainly will do him in. We get it everything was better before you were born.

Wait, how do the Giants fit in that first group?

If you've ever drafted a player who turned out to help you.

The A's don't belong in there either.

Yes they do. When was the last time they signed a high dollar FA?

not spending big on other teams' free agents is "the right way"

and home grown-core:

Buster Posey, Madison Bumgarner, Matt Cain, Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford, Tim Lincecum, Sergio Romo

why wouldn't they be?

Because they have a 150M payroll?

It's pretty clear that Kyle's stupid point is that teams that decided losing on purpose was how to make the playoffs weren't in (AS OF 1/6 INTO THE SEASON)and teams that everyone mocked for trying this season are.

The Twins, Phillies, and Mariners are the only ones that fit his stupid point.

Cespedes?

if the A's aren't doing things "the right way TM" then we certainly aren't either

there's like 4 teams in recent memory that you could argue "lost on purpose", and one of them is currently in the playoffs (as of 1/6 into the season)

When's the last time one of their first-round picks hit it big?

Like sonny gray is doing?

He's pitched 105 innings. On the list of ways they built their team, he's a blip.

The A's built their team with savvy trades, late-round picks emerging and value free-agent signings.

They may be low-payroll, but they are doing things very differently from our plan.

Thats kinda exactly what we are doing. We just havent made the trades yet.

And also we're terrible at it, and they're good at it, and we're hoping and praying on a generation of elite top-round picks to save us.

Bryce Harper needs surgery after tearing the UCL in his thumb sliding into third base on a triple. He'll be out till at least early July.

Thankfully for Washington, Harper never hustles and can't be that good because he bats seventh.

Archie Bradley hits the DL with a strained flexor in his elbow. Are there any elite pitchers left unscathed at this point?

Bradley, Walker, Bundy, Taillon, Zimmer, Edwards, Urias, Appel etc etc
