On the flip side, I see Epstein talk about how it felt when Aaron Boone hit his game 7 walk-off and how they immediately knew they had to get better, and I have trouble imagining him feel that same way about a Cubs team.

Are you implying because he grew up a Sox fan that loss ate at him on a whole different level?

Yes. I'm absolutely implying and stating that I think he treats the Cubs differently than he did the Sox both because of rooting interests and because of the difference between a first job and a second job.

So you're saying he's human?

So...you're suggesting he should be much more professional in his management of the Cubs.

I'm saying, as noted above, that he's a human being and that emotions drive decisions.

You are implying it is a bad thing. I'm suggesting the possibility that being less emotional in decision making is actually a good thing.

Garza received an offer from the Angels in December worth $52 million over four years, but he passed because he was in Turks and Caicos on an anniversary trip and did not want to be distracted by baseball.

“I was on vacation with my wife, and I didn’t want to be disturbed,” Garza said. “It was like, ‘Here it is, we’ll pull it in a certain amount of hours.’ I didn’t have a chance to respond, so I just said, ‘Whatever. It is what it is.’”

Why are you letting your woman decide what offers you field, bro?

If anyone wants to bother me on vacation to offer me $52 million I encourage them to do so.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure why they would do that. I wonder how it will impact their future drafts.

I never was able to understand why college baseball players were allowed to have advisors while basketball and football players would be put through the ringer if they tried the same thing.

Fear that basketball and football players would exploit the system and get better leverage for themselves?

Not sure what you mean there??? Once a basketball/football player declares to go pro, don't they have to get an advisor/agent anyway? Both of those sports don't have the option of going back to college like baseball do. So they can't go into the draft, get picked, and then decides to go back to school for another year. They also have their slot money set where you can still negotiate somewhat in baseball.

Exactly.

In recent years, various NCAA officials have repeatedly stood up in front of coaches at the annual American Baseball Coaches Association convention and acknowledged that players need help negotiating contracts, and that the agent policy for baseball should be reevaluated. The NCAA knows that baseball should not be treated the same as football and basketball, because the baseball draft takes place during the season and players retain collegiate eligibility after they are drafted, unlike football and basketball players, who must declare their entrance into professional drafts that take place after the season.
