In 2016, the Angels will owe $90 million to Josh Hamilton, Jered Weaver, Albert Pujols, and C.J. Wilson alone.

They won't be regretting those in a few years when it comes time to lock up Trout.

Why are CJ Wilson and Jered Weaver in that group?

Because they have large contracts.

So does Evan Longoria. Paying money to good players isn't something to regret.

On an individual basis that's true, but within the context of a team with many long-term deals, it can be risky and a detriment. If there isn't much potential for surplus value, than you need the highly paid players to produce each year, or possibly have an incredible prospect pipeline already established, in order to stay competitive.

Lucky for the Angels they aren't owned by Tom Ricketts and having 90M tied up in 4 players won't mean they have to stock the team with nothing but league min players the rest of the way.

If plantar fasciitis is "proof" that someone is much older than they claim to be then Joakim Noah must actually be 63.

It was obvious that Pujols was lying about his age long before I even knew what plantar fasciitis was. What a weird comment.

Not really, since there's no actual evidence that he's not as old as he says he is. While it's never really all that surprising if a LA player is revealed to have done something like this, given that Pujols was already in the system and a new player when 9/11 happened and baseball faced a serious visa/immigration crackdown then (which is how a bunch of guys got caught within a relatively small time span) it's even more unlikely that he'd get away with this. Pretty much the only major exceptions with guys playing at that time were Soriano (because of his circuitous route through Japan) and Tejada.

I think he may have escaped some of that scrutiny since he was well established in the US and went to high school and juco here. He's definitely not your everyday case and I'm pretty certain he lives in St. Louis year round. He's also been a US citizen since 2007, which I suppose would have probably caused some added attention to his birth date. Who knows?

God, just shut the [expletive] up already.

There was already uncertainty about his age even before he was drafted, and they were really looking to spot falsified visas and immigration documents right when he was a brand new player; between that and, like you said, that he then always went through the citizenship process makes it pretty unlikely that he would have gotten away with this. The crackdown on athlete visas post-9/11 was incredibly tough and a ton of eyes would have been on Pujols because of all of the suspicion on him from high school onward.

The Cards Fan tweets from Baseball's Best Fans tonight have been amaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing.

Jared Washko @jaredwashko

Sorry to all you Freese lovers, but he is so overrated and has been nothing but a curse since he won the WS for us in 2011.

Best phrasing ever.

Since the break the Royals are 10-2. While moving up the WC ladder they have not done much damage in the division race. Detroit is 9-3 (including 1-2 vs KC) and Cleveland is 8-4. Taking away head-to-head games the three teams are 24-6 since the break. That's .800 baseball.

So the Pirates are going for a 5 game series sweep of the Cardinals tomorrow. That has to be incredibly rare.

Moises Alou and the entire 2003 Cubs bullpen are still mad they got screwed out of their shot at a 5-game sweep.

After the Pirates one the first game, I sent an IM to a card fan buddy at work, just messing around saying "five game sweep!!". He replied that the Pirates had only beaten the Cards worst starting pitcher, and not get too excited.
