I always hated that thing. He hit .400 one whole season. Thus, shouldn't he have some balls with an average well above that?

That's one season, though. Not his whole career.

I know, I still think if he constantly got pitches down the middle he hits at a higher rate than that. Maybe not though.

Yeah, Ted Williams would have hit .600 for his career if he only got pitches straight down the middle.

Right down the middle every time? I'd imagine higher than .600. It's one thing to hit a pitch down the middle when you don't necessarily expect it. To know its coming down the middle every time has to higher than that for a hitter of his caliber.

Gruesome injury to Tim Hudson. Yuuuuck

That was brutal. Will probably go down as one of the more disturbing sports injuries in history. In case anyone hasn't seen it, Eric Young stepped on the back of his ankle while Hudson was covering first (Hudson's foot was in the middle of the back, Young couldn't really avoid it on the close play) and his ankle basically snapped exactly like you'd expect from a "gruesome injury".

While I'm perfectly fine with descriptions of things that happened to dead things, I wish you had just left this at "someone stepped on him" and spoilered the rest.

If all health, the Yankees could field a lineup of:

RF Ichiro

2B Jeter

3B A Rod

DH Pronk

2B Cano

LF Soriano

CF Granderson

1B Teixara

C Stewart

Bench V. Wells

Bench Youk

Bench Overbay

SP Sabathia

SP Petitte

SP Kuroda

CL Rivera

Imagine those guys together circa 2004-2010.

You're right, it completely slipped my mind that the 2013 Yankees are the ultimate SCS team. Chock full of fliers and players who used to be good but are now simply old.

If you think about it, it's not a horrible idea.

You have a handful of good players in various stages of their prime in Cano, Sabathia, Texeira, and Granderson.

Then there's some over the hill players already under contract in A Rod, Jeter, and Rivera (who's prime never really ends)

Their farm system is mediocre at best, and last year's free agent class didn't offer much. So why not line up as many bottles as possible and hope to fill them with as much lightening as possible with a bunch of former stars who could just as easily ride off into the sunset, but could also go for one last hurrah? The anti-Theo plan if you will.

Certainly not a team with a future, but it seems to be working to some degree.

According to Baseball Reference, Cano has a WAR of 4.9 and Gardner as a WAR of 3.5. The rest of the Yankees' entire offense has combined for a 1.2 WAR.

Almost-Cub Randall Delgado almost Maddux'd the Padres today. Missed by one pitch. (CG Shutout under 100 pitches)

He has a 2.83 ERA

If only Dempster had been as professional about [expletive] as Soriano was.

Yea, so Mike Trout...

2012: .326 / .399 / .564 (.963 OPS)

2013: .324 / .401 / .562 (.963 OPS)

That's freakish.
