With the Giancarlo Stanton trade talk heating up, do the Cubs have even a legit shot in this thing? I'm assuming no player on the Cubs big league roster or minors is off the table.

Anything's possible, but it's hard to see us having the best offer.

If the Mets dangle D'arnaud and Wheeler or the Rangers include Profar then no.

Or the Cardinals could trump everyone and offer Taveras and a combination of Rosenthal/Martinez/Wacha/Miller

No way they offer up Taveras+ for Stanton. They think he's a superstar in the making and they've got that many more years of control at a relatively cheap price.

Yovani Gallardo busted for DUI... it's only a ticket for the first offense in Wisconsin though...

He blew a .22!

For his listed body weight that's 13 drinks in one hour.

This is the land of 10 DUIs and still driving, though. Slap on the wrist.

I'm at the Giants-Brewers game tonight. Chad Gaduin just came in to relive Zito. What's up with him? Has he been hurt or permanently relegated to bullpen duty? He's hitting 92-94 at the edge of the zone and has a decent off speed pitch working. I had hopes of him being a decent 3/4 in the Harden trade.

i think the cubs can put up a pretty competitive offer. the question is whether or not theo/jed would deplete the top of their newly budding system for stanton. something like baez/almora/johnson has to put us in the discussions.

They won't trade Stanton for a package headlined by 3 guys who haven't reached AA. Castillo, Baez, maybe one of Jackson/Watkins/Vitters they like best, and someone like Johnson would be more in the arena. As for whether they can have the best offer, that's not for me to say. If you play it that way there's always going to be teams with greater prospects and/or urgency, but they value their players or Stanton differently, or maybe pursue other options. It's how Trevor Bauer ends up in a place like Cleveland.

i see your point, but in that situation you have them valuing castillo + one of jackson/watkins/vitters more than almora. plus i was thinking about this in the future a bit, when those guys should be at slightly more advanced levels.

Give 'em Rizzo.

Seriously. Though isn't he up for arbitration after next season? Too bad.

Year after, that's why we endured the end of the LaHair era as long as we did. Rizzo's under team control through 2018.

Alright, then I'm back in on the trade Rizzo idea.
