Pujols was a classy player all those years on the Cardinals, so I could never bring myself to dislike him. I find myself pulling for him now that he's in the American League. I hope he breaks out soon.

No, he was a douche, he just did it quietly and it got overlooked because he was so good at baseball. He's really kind of an ass and has proven it on multiple occasions.

Card fans are happy about this, so why would I be?

I normally don't get too wrapped up in the rivalry, but there is a guy at work who cackles when he talks about Pujols. I wish Albert all the success in the world because it sounds so creepy.

Can't say I'm rooting for him to break out of it. Continued Pujols suckage is enjoyable to me.

What the [expletive]?

Just never liked him, and it wasn't just because he was a Cardinal.

Oh, so he's a professional athlete you say?

A similar case was Michael Jordan. He was head and shoulders the best at what he did, and was great at smiling for the cameras, but there have been a lot of reports that he is and always has been arrogant and at times rude. It shouldn't come as a surprise from a guy who openly referred to his team mates as his "supporting cast".

Refusal to sign any autograph unless it's for money for one. There's been a lot of stuff that has rubbed media types (rational ones, not the PC police types) the wrong way over the years. Like SSR said though, he's a professional athlete. I don't think he's some awful human being, he's just not the classy type he wants you to think he is.

i like it when most big money athletes fail, unless they're total self-aware douches, then i root for them.

He has a hitting clinic near Kansas City. He does a signing to help support it yearly. He charges $200 an autograph. One of my friends went, paid the money to get his signature. Albert wouldn't sign the darker item in a silver pen and put the autograph on the darkest spot. He's a dick, just like Wilfredo.....ok not like Wilfredo, but a dick.

Pujols was doing a charity golf tournament here in Mobile, AL because his wife has ties to the city. That same weekend, The University of South Alabama was having their alumni baseball weekend, and we had such greats as Juan Pierre, Marlon Anderson, Jon Lieber, Luis Gonzalez, and more come out on hand for the show. Albert Pujols accepted an invitation to participate as a guest in the college vs. mlb home run derby. He won, naturally.

He then signed autographs for everyone free of charge! Although, I was wearing a Cubs jersey, and my roommates were Cardinals fans. We were in line next to each other, he signed their stuff, he skipped over me.

That's actually kind of funny.

It is. I actually laughed when it happened. I was right there up against the banister right next to my Cardinals jersey donning roommates. Passed right over me for the next guy in line. My roommates at the time are now married. They both have an Albert Pujols ball. Two autographed balls in one household. Not fair.

He's the one big name I don't have. He never signs here in KC at games and I will not pay $200 for him.

That's funny. When my buddy and I were in the bleachers for the Cubs home opener in 2006 against the Cardinals, it was a crappy day so the Cardinals were taking BP under the RF bleachers and we got to chat with several Cardinals, Skip Schumaker (as a rookie, we asked him who the hell he was), Eckstein (asked him if he was legally considered a midget and he answered enthusiastically 'actually im up to 5'3 now!'), Larry Walker (then a hitting coach and said to us "somebody's got to teach these [expletive] how to hit"), and eventually Pujols. I was surprised at how talkative Albert was and he couldnt have been nicer, answering questions about the Cardinals new park, how he feels about the ASG winning league getting home field (have no idea how that one came up) etc. My friend eventually asked if he could sign something, but he didnt have anything to sign, so Albert went out of his way to go under the bleachers to the batting cage, grab a baseball, and when someone threw down a marker, signed it and threw it back to him even though we were obvious Cubs fans.

I've always had respect for him since then, although that respect is tested whenever he has an under the radar douchebag moment as he has a couple times a year.

Jesus Christ, his OPS is on the verge of dropping below .500. This is insane.

My guess is if we had signed him, we'd be wondering if he still worked for the Cards secretly. I wonder at what point the age accusations start getting loud.

Or we'd comment about how he sucks without his healthy diet of pixie dust.
