What's with all the early afternoon start times for the Iowa games this year? Is it something they've always done or is it a new thing this year where they are trying to get the AAA guys acclimated to day games that they could play at Wrigley?

According to the Peoria Cubs twitter, Concepcion has been added to the roster and will start Wednesday.

Yaniel Cabezas was also added to Peoria's roster with Rafael Lopez going on the DL. Scott Weismann was bumped up to Tennessee.

Mildly interesting that they flipped Burke/Wells around. Probably doesn't mean all that much, but does catch the eye.

Looks like Concepcion is taking Cruz's spot.

My guess is they want to get Burke as many innings as they can and get him to Daytona quickly. We need to know what we've got here, because if we don't add him to the 40 man at the end of the year, he can walk.

That's what I am hoping is the thinking, but keep in mind, in years past, the piggybacks would rotate their order occasionally, so this may have been scheduled anyways. We'll have to wait and see if Burke is given a longer rope over the course of a few games.

Probably because the weather/temps at night this time of year is usually pish poor.

Burkes young pitching career is off to a great start, so maybe they want to see if they can get more than a loogy out of it. He is 24, so it would be nice to see him get a stint at at least AA before the end of the season.

Flipped over to MiLB scoreboard and saw that ... Chattanooga put up a 5 spot on the Smokies in the 1st. Ugh not a good start for Rhee ... granted, Rhee wasn't helped, with errors by Bour and Ha, which led to two unearned out of the 5.

Semi-interesting statistical note - Rebel Ridling is mashing righties (well, doing relatively well), but has struggled, in 9 AB's against lefties. Probably just a statistical blip from SSS, but anyone recall his splits from years past? Sure miss Sackmann's site.

out-dueling top prospects Aaron Sanchez and Justin Nicolino so far, at least in terms of baserunners allowed (4 to 9) if not K's (4 to 9)

edit: Josh Timmers ‏ @Cubsminorswrap

Fabulous start by Kyler Burke for @peoriachiefs 6IP 3H 0R 1BB 4K. Only one of the hits left the infield.

I get the feeling he's not long for Peoria.

Ben Wells follows up with a scoreless inning.

Vitters with a two-out single off Shelby Miller. Sadly, the scoring official has decided not to count it as it was on the first pitch.

Assuming he survives the season, Burke's going to need to be added to the 40 man this offseason.

There should be no shortage of available 40 man spots by then, though I'm not sure who else we need to think about protecting for next year.

Lawlz.

Too bad that doesn't say two-out double, but I'll take it.

Great to see from Burke. Athletic and LH with velocity and a breaking ball is always a good tool/skill set to have, and good to see he's taken well to pitching.

So will Simpson actually pitch today? Excited to read about some Concepcion tommorrow...

Wells has given up 24 hits in 17 innings.

Maybe he's been really unlucky, or maybe he's serving up a lot of whackable strikes.

He's given up 18 runs in 17 innings.

Minor league pitchers sometimes get deceptively low ERA's because so many of the runs they allow get ignored as unearned. You know, get two outs, walk the bases loaded, have a fielder make an error, then give up five more hits before getting an out. Some terrible pitching, but it helps your ERA because they all list as unearned.

Not saying Wells has been like that, but it's a given that ERA's tend to be deceptively low for groundball pitchers because groundballs cause a lot more errors than flies.

I'd had a lot of hopes for him entering this season, but 18 runs allowed in 17 April innings in cold Midwest League may involve more than just bad luck.

Yes, he's in Daytona's starting lineup.
