Other than the fact he is "realtively young", who is going to give up anything of decent value for him? I am ready to pull the plug on the Soto era. As it stands, only Byrd looks worse at the plate. He is clearly regressing.

Thoughts?

He basically means that you don't trade a guy like Soto when his value is at his lowest. And it's early in the season.

He probably meant one of those two things.

Those points, plus just how nonsensical it is to say "it's time to pull the plug on the Soto era" like that's a thing. Why? Contrary to what the meatballs think, he's not blocking any prospects that need to be the starting catcher for the Cubs right now. So what does "pull the plug" mean if this guy is saying he has no value? Just get rid of him? And he's asking why anyone would think that's a terrible idea? I mean, he's talking about Soto like he's a lock to stay this bad or get worse.

It's been two [expletive] weeks.

I propose a rule whereby new members aren't allowed to post anything until 3 in-season months after they register.

I propose we don't scare away every new poster that wants to talk baseball.

Fine.

Amended rule: New posters must send me booze so I'm less angry.

Or they just don't post awful things.

So asking if Soto has any trade value now is a terrible post? Your response is a terrible one.

Don't worry, that's Nuts & Gum. It's his way of welcoming you. He's a big teddy bear.

no he's not.

I think Theo is ready to pull the plug on the Soto era also. But it probably won't be as quick as the Byrd trade. They have to play him and let him get out of his slump before they trade him though. So expect to maybe see him traded at the end of the trade deadline, or in the offseason.

Cool story bro :good:

Soto is still young and under team control for a few years. The Rays would really be the ideal fit. They have the obvious need and while their farm system isn't what it once was, they're still deep. I highly doubt that they're willing to give up on Desmond Jennings just yet, especially with Upton likely out after this season. Too bad.

Hopefully by the middle of the season, Soto is putting up a .330 or higher OBP with double digit homers. If he is, we will get a damn good return for him.

If he is we may decide not to trade him.

We should have traded Soto instead of trading for Garza. At this moment Soto has no value.

??????????????? How are those two things related?

Posted
I know they aren't strictly related, but seeing the return on Byrd makes me just want to hold on to Soto.

Very unrelated. I'm still not certain why they did the Byrd trade at his lowest possible value unless the PTBNL pool is something somewhat impressive. There may also have been some kind of internal issue, and umlike with the previous regime they managed to keep it quiet rather than help the media fan the flames. Soto also has a few years of team control.

The unconditional love for Soto amongst several on this board is truly mystifying.

I'm looking forward to some heads exploding when the whippingboy LaHair has a better year than the goldenboy Soto.
