Will there be a thorough investigation of this Texas benefits scandal or will they sweep it under the rug like the time Colt McCoy's wife admitted on a national radio program that UT boosters were paying players?

Appalling.

The NCAA decided having Barnes coach was punishment enough.

Purdue offered Demetri McCamey's little brother Glynn Watson. They're really going after the Illinois Wolves kids. Jay Simpson is on campus and Kendall Stephens will be next year. Bates-Diop and Jordan Ash are high priority targets. Now Watson has an offer and apparetly there is interest in Prentiss Nixon and Roosevelt Smart. I don't think we get KBD, but that's a lot of offers out to kids from one program.

edit: oh, and 2014 F Max Rothschild from the Wolves is visiting Purdue on Friday. From what I've read he's move of a Northwestern/Ivy League type kid.

Well, I finally watched the IU live practice thing on ESPNU this weekend. It got me kind of hyped for the season. I don't think this is the #1 team in the nation, right now. Granted, they are as talented as anyone in the country, but I worry about how it will all come together. This isn't a team that can completely build on last year. Some guys will be in different roles, mainly due to Yogi joining the roster. A below average defensive team now faces the challenge of now playing a lot of defensive possessions with 2 sub 6-footers on the floor. Zeller isn't exactly dominant defensively in the middle either. So, I worry about a lot of easy baskets, especially when IU fails to get the full court pressure they will often play this year. On the positive side, Yogi should be able to get to the rim almost at will and create for himself, Zeller, or a shooter. And Zeller should be able to get any calls he wants in the paint, since he's America's golden boy this year. The keys are going to be getting more consistency from Watford (17.8 ppg, 46% f/field in last 6, following a 10-39 slump) and Oladipo (9 games over 15 points, 9 with 6 or fewer) and getting another guy to step up in the front court (Perea or Hollowell).

This is a team that will out-talent teams to a 30-win season. But I do worry about a tourney flameout, when games are being called closer and a team manages to get Zeller in foul trouble. IU could go out in the 2nd round, or they could be an Elite 8/Final 4 type team. I don't think they are going to win a championship (mainly due to coaching and interior defense), but it'd be pretty exciting if they got close.

There's no way they win 30 games. The Big Ten will be too strong this year.

I'd be shocked if the champion has less than 4 losses in conference.

No way? If they lose 5 in conf thats 13 wins. If they lose both tough non conf games thays 26-27. Thats 3-4 in b1g and/or ncaa tourneys. And thats pretty pessimistic for a team rated better than everyone right now.

They're playing thirteen non-conference games, by my count.

They won twenty-seven games last year. It's pretty silly to claim there's "no way" they'll win all of three more games this year. Now, if we're just talking about regular season, sure, they're not going 30-1.

Is college basketball the only major sport where people regularly count postseason wins as part of a team's record?

College football too, but that's only 1 game. Of course college basketball allows almost everyone to be in postseason with conference tournaments.

A study by college basketball stats guru Ken Pomeroy showed that the top team in the AP's preseason poll has made the NCAA tournament every year since 1990, has advanced to the Final Four 13 times and has won seven national titles. The only No. 1 team not to receive a top-three seed during that time period is UConn's 2000 team, which received a No. 5 and lost in the Round of 32.

Haha. Jealous bastards.

I should have linked the entire article, but the point of it was that a lot of people hate preseason rankings and think preseason #1 usually disappoints. But the preseason #1 actually fares better than the #1 going into the postseason. The preseason rankings are generally more predictive than the final rankings of the regular season.
