McGary is 20 years old, he will be 21 by the draft. I was 17 as a freshman. I know he had one year of prep school, but how is he that old?

He classified down a grade. Let's just say, well, he wouldn't be going to Michigan if he wasn't really good at basketball.

How exactly does this work and how do state activities associations allow it to happen? I remember when I found out Tyler Hansbrough was two months older than me yet graduated a year later, which pretty much guaranteed them a state title in 2005. The whole thing seems absurd and unfair.

Depends on state. One of our better players wasn't allowed to play his senior year for us as he turned 20. Granted that's been fifteen years ago.

Michigan has a similar rule that was recently amended to allow for cases of kids with developmental disabilities (i.e. not kids who will play D-I sports).

There are two boys in my sons Jr Hi class who were both born in February and were not started in school until they were 6. They are good athletes to begin with, so they really dominate the Jr Hi competition in baseball and basketball. Both of their parents are school officials with strong athletic backgrounds. One of them has a younger brother who was born in March who is basically doing the same thing.

Michigan fan fight!!!

Yeah sneakypower doesn't like me very much. What can ya do? At least I've got EJ.

I do not want to take sides, but if I have to, sneaky is a Wings fan:)

Point in favor of UMF.

In Texas it's common for parents to start their sons a year later in kindergarten so they are older when HS football rolls around.

My uncle did that, though I don't think he knew his son would be like 6'6" and weigh like 150 lbs. On the other hand I was 17 when I started college and didn't graduate early.

Zeller goes pro rather than go undrafted in 2 years.

Could be the next Spencer Hawes.

Hawes is actually playing VERY well right now. I'm in my fantasy basketball title and he's like the #5 player in the league over the past month. But yeah, took him a while to get there. Think he's bigger than Zeller too.

Who would you rather have in the draft right now, Meyers Leonard or Zeller?

Phil Pressey going pro and has signed with an agent.

This is not the news I wanted to hear.

Wtf, does he know something more about Haith's fate than everyone else? Bad choice.

My guess is that Pressey feels his biggest shortcomings(defense and perimeter shooting) can be fixed just as well as a pro. I do think his decision making got a bit of a bad rap, and he wore down near the end of games since he was responsible for creating offense every possession for ~35 minutes. He could've made himself a lot more attractive with a better senior season, but I guess since his family isn't exactly hurting for money and next year's team wouldn't have been a title contender even with him, there's a certain logic to it.

That, along with the draft being a heaping pile of [expletive] this year. He probably thinks his chances of getting drafted are as good as they are gonna be if he enters the draft this year. The talent difference between the guy taken in the mid-late teens and last overall isn't all that big this year.
