Minnesota is 6-7 in the Big Ten with @ OSU and vs. Ind as their next 2. Could be veering into bubble range after those 2. Their last 3 are quite winnable though so 9-9 is still looking like a possibility.

I agree that Iowa is not in at 9-9 unless maybe one of those wins was at Indiana (yeah, no) or they take two in the BTT with one of those wins being over a good team.

I'll take a 21 point win over Minnesota today though.

67-30 over the last 33 minutes. That was awesome.

At Nebraska Thursday scares the [expletive] out of me. It's pretty simple right now I think. Get to 10-8 with 1 in Chicago and I think they're in.

5 games left. 2 with Nebraska, home games with Illinois and Purdue and at Indiana. Gotta go 4-1 and not gonna win at IU. I don't see them losing at home vs. Purdue or Nebraska so you've gotta get the road wins at Nebraska and home vs. Illinois.

What a stretch against a good (but admittedly fading team). Kind of with they didn't get into the 21-5 hole just so they could have won by 30-40 points. But if that's your only complaint, your team had a good game.

how did we lose at home to this team?

I'm not sure what caused it or when exactly it happened, but this team had an epiphany at some point and gained an understanding of what Groce wants them to do. They've been so much crisper in execution on both ends of the floor it's like watching a different team. They've been so much better at everything and even my one huge complaint, closing out 3 point shooters, has been much better lately.

They've also gotten away with pushing Northwestern all over the place tonight.

@JohnGasaway

I know Gonzaga and Indiana are "good wins," but my brother didn't go to school at either of those places. This helps.

B1G now has 8 teams in the top 30 of the Pomeroy ratings, with 3 in the top 10 (Wisconsin will never go away) and 6 in the top 20.

Dumb question, but does Wisconsin's style of play have to do this?

It's not so much their style of play, as it is their penchant to never take the foot off the gas when they clearly outmatch a team.

Gotcha. Thanks.

Anyone care to rank the B1G at this point in the season? Not just how they are playing right now, just overall rankings of how good you feel the teams are.

I'd probably go (for teams that are locks/in contention to be in the tournament)

1. Michigan- Final Four/NC ceiling

2. Indiana- Final Four/NC ceiling

3. Wisconsin- Elite 8 Ceiling

4. MSU- Final Four Ceiling

5. OSU- Elite 8 Ceiling

6. Illinois- Sweet 16 Ceiling

7. Iowa- 1 win ceiling

8. Minnesota- Sweet 16 Ceiling

Then I don't care about the rest

And I say that fully expecting Illinois to lay a giant egg this week at home vs. Penn State. Because it's happened a lot recently, since Illinois is 3-6 in their last 9 against Penn State.

Quick current look at the "bubble"...

According to TeamRankings (criticize the authenticity of their numbers all you want, but the exact numbers aren't really relevant to the discussion), there are 40 teams that have at least an 80% chance of making the tournament at this juncture:

Miami (FL), Florida, Indiana, Duke, Kansas, Syracuse, Louisville, Arizona, Gonzaga, Michigan St, Michigan, Georgetown, New Mexico, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, Marquette, Kansas St, Colorado St, Oklahoma St, Minnesota, Memphis, Oregon, Ohio State, Middle Tenn, UCLA, VCU, NC State, Illinois, Colorado, UNLV, Belmont, Butler, Oklahoma, Wichita St, Cincinnati, St Marys, San Diego St, LA Tech, N Carolina, Akron

Those schools represent a total of 15 conferences (ACC, SEC, B1G, Big 12, Big East, Pac 12, WCC, MWC, C-USA, Sun Belt, A-10, OVC, MVC, WAC, MAC). So as many as 12 at-large bids are still largely up for grabs among the remaining bubble teams, which include:

Creighton, Southern Miss, St. Louis, La Salle, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, California, Virginia, Iowa State, Baylor, Villanova, Alabama, Boise State, Maryland, Arizona State, St. John's, Temple, Arkansas, Iowa

So, the conference tourneys of great interest for bubble teams (potential bid stealers) are in the SEC (no, seriously, root for Florida), C-USA (Memphis), Sun Belt (Middle Tennessee), OVC (Belmont), MVC (Wichita State), WAC (Louisiana Tech) and MAC (Akron)

i doubt akron would make it if they lose in their conference tournament.

i think kentucky is toast. zero top 50 wins (unless ole miss creeps back up) and only two chances left to get one (vs. mizzou, vs. florida). i guess mizzou is a possibility since they're terrible on the road, but i wouldn't bet on it.

I think the committee would love themselves an undefeated conference champion that lost in the tourney, which would likely be the case with Akron. Either way, they're the only bubble-worthy consideration for the MAC, so it's good for the bubble teams if Akron isn't one of them.

I think it'd be hilarious, though, if the SEC ends up being a one-bid league.

Even living in St. Louis with the Mizzou presence I haven't really paid much attention. Who even has a shot besides FL? Mizzou, Kentucky, and Ole Miss?

See 3 posts up...Kentucky, Mizzou, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Alabama have at least outside shots for at-large bids.
