time to reassess michigan or just a terrible game against a great team on the road? I just don't know anymore. They will fatten up on the Penn States on the league coming up, but that doesnt exactly inspire confidence. Trying not to be down because they are still a very talented team but yeah...

Michigan is still really good. They're still a Final Four caliber team. They still have a very good chance of sharing the Big Ten title (outright has probably passed). They still have really good talent (including the best point guard in the nation) and a really good coach. The Michigan State game was a Murphy's Law game and I suspect Michigan was worn down from their brutal at Indiana-Ohio State-at Wisconsin (heartbreaker)-at Michigan State stretch. It happens.

However, if the standard is "will win the Big Ten by three games" (Shane Ryan) or "way better than Indiana" (this board), then, uh, yeah those need to be reassessed (they should have been assessed before ever being written). They're a perimeter-oriented/jump-shooting team without much scoring inside (McGary keeps playing better and better, yes), a relatively subpar defense (forty-first most efficient defense, second worst among Pomeroy's top-15), that is also quite young (three freshmen in the top-six and nary a senior that plays). They're in a group of teams that could legitimately win the title without it being a big surprise, but they are not a juggernaut.

The people on the Illinois scout board are great. Predicting a collapse like last year, saying Groce is in over his head. That's 6 out of 7 with two winnable games coming up.

The fact that Groce kept this team together when they were 2-7 in the league bodes very well; better than anything else that has happened even.

You haven't beaten Purdue since December of 2008, CELEBRATE!

It's tough to watch your team go from a national title contender to a perennial bubble squad at best. You'll get over it.

I also read we're a real contender for Lyle, so the inevitable question is who are plan B and C at this point, because that's who we'll end up with.

Maybe, if it comes down to us and Louisville I really think we might get him. Louisville has three other point guards that will be there when he gets to campus.

Wherever he goes, I hope his coach can fill the father-figure role he has been missing (he lives with his grandmother). Good kid, but needs to grow up (even more than most teenagers). Missed a big rivalry the other game and is currently suspended (though perhaps/evidently only for missing the team bus) (http://www.courierpress.com/news/2013/feb/12/harrison-routs-bosse-clinches-tie-siac-title-clinc/).

Am I missing something here? Is Painter still recruiting for 2013-2014?

Yes he is. He had an offer out to 2013 PG Corn Elder as recently as this week but he chose to go to Miami to play football (4-Star FB recruit).

Sandi will be a 5th year Senior next year so he would be the most likely departure. I'm thinking Lawson might transfer out just to get playing time.

Elston Turner is going off.

He was perfect from the field in the first half. Ended up 7-10 from 3-point range. And choked on the front end of a 1 and 1 with 4 seconds left up 2. Thank God that bitch Henderson had already fouled out.

It's a good thing aTm has Turner because that is one horrid offensive team. He, on the other hand, is pretty awesome.

I keep hearing he got into a fight at school. But yeah, he needs a coach to help him grow up.

We're a perennial bubble team? Since when?

I thought he was talking about Illinois?

Well we had a purdue guy running things. Makes sense we would become a bubble program.

Take out glen Robinson and look at the Keady years. Then see if you see what I meant.

2005 7-21

Those are all bubble or worse years. The Glen Robinson years were obviously awesome though.

Keady made the NCAA tournament 17 times. Painter has made the tournament 6 out of 7 years. Michigan has made the tournament 19 times, ever. Wisconsin 18. If you want to run the man down for not making Final Fours, that I can see.

You can make the tournament while on the bubble. Keady did often. That's one of the perks of coaching at a big ten school.

He finished in the Top 3 of the Big Ten 13 times during those 17 appearances. Also, he had an appearance at Western Kentucky so he has 18 as a coach.

How many coaches have more appearances?

Those records I highlighted are bubble records. Are you saying they aren't?

He didn't make the tournament every year, he had bubble years. Finishing in the Top 3 of the B1G is not a bubble year. He did that 13 times. He won 6 Big Ten Championships, an average of every four years over a 25 year span.

Considering only 40 some PROGRAMS have made the tournament more times than Keady it's pretty clear that he's one of the more succesful coaches in history in terms of NCAA appearances.
