I am baffled as to how Weber has been successful this year. Is his problem simply recruiting a balanced roster?

That's my guess. Look what he did with Self's players at Illinois. I think he's a decent enough coach, but the talent he brings in isn't balanced and doesn't fit his system. You can't be baffled when the team he inherited has been to a few straight tourneys and has always played tough D. He's not playing a roster that includes his own guys. He's playing all Frank's old players.

3 in a row, 3-1 overall at Iowa with the one loss coming in OT in his first year with a 4-14 team in the Big Ten. Though 3 of the 4 have been at Iowa.

 

Big win. Now 4 of the next 5 on the road and vs. OSU, Purdue, Wisconsin and Minnesota. At least they have a home gimmie with PSU mixed in. If they can steal one of those road games and be 2-3 over the next 5 I'm pretty confident they get to 9-9 overall.

Well right now we have a sg forced into playing point guard in Abrams, Paul and Richardson who are two shooting guards, Griffey who is a shooting guard trapped in a fours body. Egwu who is a four. Off the bench we have Bertrand and Henry, two shooting guards, and Langford who I guess is a three. None of those shooting guards are really a good shooter, with the exception of Paul, so yeah I'd say Bruce struggles with how to build a roster. And even Paul takes so many dumb shots he doesn't shoot the percentage he should. Edit, oh and we also could still have Crandall head, another shooting guard that can't shoot. I'm not sure how Bruce though this roster was a good idea. Even with a non crazy Richmond and Leonard back we'd still get beaten to death by zones. Plus after having crazy success with two point guards at once, he on recruited a couple ofmhalf point guards in the 8 years since then in McCamey and Abrams.
