Savor it Duke, I believe Groce is going to put an end to days of Kentucky, Duke, et. al. plucking whatever player they want out of Chicago and the rest of Illinois.

Never heard this one before.

Imagine if you got all of the Iowa talent, you'd be pretty good. Now imagine if we could do the same. Gee I wonder why that's what we want.

Sure it's what we want, but unfortunately I think that Duke and UK will still get first pick most of the time. If that ends, it will probably only be so because we started making multiple FF runs, not because John Groce is a super recruiter. Or if we start paying kids.

That said, Cal/K's Illinois scraps probably constitute a better recruiting pool than the cream of Iowa's crop.

Not counting Maurice Creek, Illinois has as many 4-star-or-above players as Indiana (although IU has two 5-stars in that group). That and this year's start really speak to how poor of a job Bruce Weber did.

He also had Meyers Leonard and Crandall Head to use at some point last year. He had as much talent as anyone in America not named Kentucky. He just didn't put together pieces that fit.

As stated above their playing to their strengths, we saw flashes of it last season but, inevitably, they stuck with a weakness for them, Weber' motion offense. It really does speak to a poor coaching job, stubbornness or both by Weber.

Hollowell is in street clothes tonight. Weird.

I was joking about grades before but maybe it is? If it was an injury wouldn't they just say it? Maybe whatever it is isn't final yet? Like being appealed?

Maybe he got caught smoking some tree? I have no idea. It definitely doesn't seem like an injury situation.

I didn't question why you would want that. It's pretty obvious.

I'm talking about gflore's "this new coach is going to put an end to other coaches coming in and taking the best from Chicago..."

Crean hinted at players and/or being injured and sick last game. When asked specifically about Jurkin and Hollowell though, he wouldn't say if either was injured or sick. Jurkin played tonight. So, obviously this one's just on Hollowell.

Edit: Just tweeted several times from the Crean press conference:

Jeremy Hollowell is dealing with an issue not related to academics or behavior issues, Tom Crean said.

People are throwing around that he's unhappy and transferring. Not sure why he would be at this point. He was getting 11+ minutes per game.

Also, Perea had a nice game tonight. 10 rebounds in 14 minutes, I believe. Blocked a couple shots. Had a good pass, a good roll on a pick-n-roll, and a putback.

OK SERIOUSLY THAT'S ENOUGH HOLLOWELL FOR A LIFETIME

You should be made aware of the debate over his choice of attire on the bench. It was a fascinating discussion over whether he was wearing IU sweatpants or not. The final conclusion was that he was indeed wearing IU sweatpants. I wanted you to be the first to know. :good:

holy [expletive] i wish i would have said something worse than i did.

when he cut illinois from his list i sent him bible verses about traitors. great fun.

I admire your passion for the Illini, but you are clearly not of sound mind.

It does entertain from time to time though, I won't lie.

Agree. More talk about Self vs. Groce and coach of the year award talk!

Self is going to be tough to beat. KU will damn near run the table in conference play and get a No. 1 seed in March. In addition to that, he's going to make Jeff Withey a lot of money. This guy just knows how to coach.

Iowa's 11-2 in a very weak non-conference. Still, it's probably the best of what I was hoping for.

If they want to go ahead and beat Indiana now, that would be just great.
