chill and humble

Those were the words somebody used to describe Tom Brady and I have no idea how that is possible. He's not anywhere near "chill". He's also an NFL QB who knocked up his actress girlfriend, then left her for the world's greatest super model. He regularly tries to get into the model business as well. On the field he cries and whines about every call that does not go his way and beyond that demands outrageous calls go in his favor. The guy has absolutely no reason to be humble, I would love for him to have been the Bears QB for the past decade and would love to live his life, but let's stop pretending he's humble. He doesn't reach the Brett Favre level of douchiness, but since when is that piece of a crap the bar you must hurdle?

What does this have to do with him being chill and humble? Odd thing to include in your Brady rant.

A more humble quarterback would've knocked up this gal:

A 2 in the light can be a 10 in the dark.

Just wanted to get this on the next page.

I like Eli, but Brady is quite the cocksman; decisions, decisions.

It's a 16 game season, the difference in schedule is negligible. There are no Mountain West schools in the NFL. Again, I don't really like either team, but I can handle the team that has won 9 of 11 division titles and didn't lose 7 games this year winning a title a bit more.

What? The difference in schedule is very meaningful in just a 16 game NFL season. For one, the AFC West exists.

We're talking about a difference of less than 1 win per opponent played in a 16 game schedule. It's statistically insignificant. The difference in 7 win teams and 9 win teams is very little.

Should also point out that 11 of their 13 wins this year were against teams with a record between 6-10 and 8-8.

8-8: 7 wins

7-9: 1 win

6-10: 3 wins

5-11: 1 win

2-14: 1 win

Not that 8-8 teams are particularly awesome but its not like they were beating up on the dregs of the league every week.

Hey, I think Peyton is better than Brady from a pure football standpoint and has had a worse organization around him over his career but it's not like Brady wouldn't have a good argument if they win.

Brady has been fantastic. It's just annoying the sheer number of football fans I know or hear who think that it just comes down to rings with these sorts of things. That said, at least Brady IS an excellent QB; Eli being the Manning with the most rings and providing fuel for such nonsense would be obscene.

Regardless of who wins, it's going to be a victorious QB unjustly rated above Peyton Manning by the meatballs.

This.

At least Tom Brady is a great quarterback who belongs in the discussion. Eli -- who I like and hope wins -- is not even remotely in this discussion.

What I have found funny about the meatball argument that rings matter more than anything else (especially when it comes to Brady vs. Manning) is that Brady could be considered a poster-child for why that argument is flawed. Brady's career since his 3 titles is MUCH more impressive than his first few seasons.

During his 3 Superbowl seasons he had 18, 23, and 28 touchdown passes and 12, 12 and 14 interceptions. His QB Ratings were roughly 86, 86, 93. Not that those are terrible numbers but he has had some crazy good seasons since then with no titles to show for it (many years without even a playoff win). So what would the meatballs argue? Is 2001-2005 Brady better than 2007-12 Brady?

I'm a huge Eli homer but he has never and likely will never be a top 3 QB in the league. He just isn't. The fawning over him lately is pretty silly.

I think this started gaining steam from Bill Simmons earlier in the season. He was the first person I've read that came up with the "Eli is underrated" thing.

So ESPN.com has a bunch of old football players picking the "All Any Era" team. Top 20 current players that could play in any era.

#20 is Peyton Manning...ok. So far so good.

#19 is Tim Tebow....and, I'm out.

I'm guessing versatility? Manning wouldn't really fit in as a 1930s QB

Is this a joke?

ESPN's integrity has been in question for years. I think we are beyond that now...

EDIT: Oh wait, old-timers picked the list...too many hits to the head I guess. Sid Luckman and YA Tittle were better passers than Tebow.

Tebow would have made an awesome Left Tackle. That's where someone of his size would have played back then. Maybe that's what they meant. I'd bet that back in the '20s Tebow would be considered a good passer.

I haven't read through the thread, so my apologies if this has been mentioned (which I seriously doubt it has been).

Has anybody ever done the "Super Bowl Squares" form of betting? I had never heard of it before, but I have a co-worker from Buffalo that says it's big there. Anyway, I'm so happy I'm doing it this year because I couldn't care less about either of these teams. Also, you don't have to have the actual "winning" square at the end of each quarter, as touching (i.e. top, bottom, left, right - diagonal doesn't work), wins you a little more than the entry fee.

This lack of Cubs transactions lately is really boring - just thought I'd share.

I didn't know there was a person alive who hadn't bet on the Super Bowl that way. We've got complete non-sports fans doing this one, and half the sports bars put one up around the time the playoffs start and people start buying.

The "touching" squares winning at the end of a quarter is lame. That should only happen once, at the final score.

Well they haven't made their way to Eastern NC, apparently. Not that I'm surprised. We have a ton of bars, but also a Baptist church on every corner.

Yep. Pure luck and no skill involved, but should be fun.

probably any current nfl player would become legendary if they played back then.

The "touching" works when the squares are expensive. One of my favorite Super Bowls was at a bar cheering with a friend, who I had split the squares with, for a diagonal or straight up win. It helped making money on both.

A variation that I hadn't heard before was a payout every time the score changes with the final score collecting whatever money is left at the end. If you draw 0-0 you automatically win money.

Holy Pro Bowl. The crowd is already booing for lack of effort. The NFC's first run play was embarrassing. I thought a whistle blew.
