I wanted Ray Allen on the Bulls last year, and will take him this year too.

Bobcats pick.

I would do it. It's tough to give that pick up for a short term upgrade but Ray Allen is a player that can make a legit difference against the Heat.

I wouldn't. I don't see Allen making a huge difference against the Heat when we already have Rip as a SG and Korver and Watson as three point threats. I'd like to have him, but I'd rather keep the Bobcats pick for something more valuable.

You don't see Ray Allen making a huge difference compared to the 12 minutes Hamilton will be healthy for and the corpse of Kyle Korver?

I'm assuming Hamilton will be healthy for the playoffs. If his injuries progress beyond "my groin hurts/I don't feel like playing in the regular season," then maybe you reevaluate. But the Bobcats pick is one of our few assets capable of getting a difference maker in the next few years. I don't want to use it on a guy who will be a free agent next year and whose strength (three point shooting) is already on the team. It's not like Allen is going to be able to defend Wade, or strengthen our interior defense to keep James and Wade out of the lane. And he won't be able to take significant pressure off of Rose by creating his own shot. If we're really looking for weaknesses on this team, those are the things I would give up that draft pick in order to improve and beat the Heat. A marginal improvement doesn't do it for me.

why are we assuming hamilton will even be good if he's healthy?

anyways, by the time we get that pick, lebron may not even be on the heat anymore, and dwyane wade will probably be in a wheelchair

Because he was doing well before he got hurt? He's tough to guard, since his defender has to chase him all over the court. The last couple of games his shot has been pretty rusty though. Hard to get on him too much about it since nobody else has had their jumpshot working either (4th quarter vs Spurs notwithstanding).

I don't think the Bobcats pick has value right now, it's too far off and even MJ can possibly produce a .500 team in the East at some point. I'd give that pick and more to get Ray Allen and not think twice. Rip can be a scorer off the bench for us, if he's healthy. Ray is a guy that fits us perfectly. I'd send this years 1st, the Bobcat pick, Korver, and whatever luggage we have to in order for salaries to match up. And even then, I think it's possible other teams would outbid us. Ray will generate serious interest from contenders.

I wouldn't view it as an either/or with Rip if we got Allen. That'd be a good 1-2 punch at SG.

Both can guard Wade as well as can be expected. And Allen is definitely an upgrade on Korver in every area including defense.

he shot .429 from the field last season and .409 the year before. the 11 game sample size before he got hurt doesn't mean much to me.

i'm not saying i expect him to suck, but if there's an upgrade available, then "but we have rip" shouldn't be a factor whatsoever.

He was also playing for some horrible Pistons teams too. I'm hopeful that when the defense has to focus on Rose that Hamilton will have easier opportunities. Admittedly, that could be some wishful thinking. But I don't think it's a stretch to think that Rip will be better than Keith Bogans, and the Bulls were able to be pretty successful with him starting.

We'd have to give them Watson or Brewer as well.

This.

Plus looking at how many games Rip has missed over the last 3 seasons (36, 27 and 23 this year), how can you ever expect to count on Rip to be healthy when you need him most? If I were the Bulls id at least consider any potential SG acquisitions that would be an upgrade over Rip even if he was healthy.

Define well.

ETA: Unless you mean you want to throw him down a well. You want to murder him...in a well. Seems a little harsh.

Allen's an upgrade defensively over Rip too

Well yeah, to even up salaries. It's not like the Celtics want to acquire either of those guys on purpose.

Significantly better than Keith Bogans.

well keith bogans is horrible so i hope so. i'm not hating on rip or anything, if he can be decent and knock down the good looks that he's bound to get, he represents a massive upgrade. i just think he's way too much of a question mark to turn down a possible upgrade at sg. brewer kind of sucks these days too, so i wouldn't mind too much if he didn't see much time in the postseason. his defense doesn't make up for his complete lack of any offensive game whatsoever, and i think we need offense at the 2 more than we need another d-guy. we're going to play awesome defense regardless. it would be nice to always have a guy in the game at the 2 who can shoot. we'll need it if we want a chance at beating miami. also sg is really the only position we can upgrade at. we know deng is going to be playing like 42 minutes a game at sf, and even though boozer sucks we have no choice but to ride it out and play him. the only real thing the bulls can do to get better is add another offensive guard and figure out who plays later.

i'd do the bobcats pick + brewer for ray allen. i don't value the charlotte pick as much as others might, though.

I'm assuming the Bobcats are bottoming out now. They'll get better by accident if nothing else by drafting high until that pick is unprotected. I'd give it up for an instant upgrade.

I've argued for 2 years on RealGM that the Bobcats pick is more valuable to us as a trade piece than it will end up being as a pick whenever it comes. Its just such a small chance that the pick lasts that long let alone they are #1 pick bad during the unprotected year. And of course they could lose the lottery too and pick like 6th instead.

i do not understand lebron james. he has one of the most absurd halves of basketball i've ever seen, he just made one of the most ridiulous three pointers ive ever seen, and then for the last shot at the buzzer he passes it to udonis haslem.

wtf, lebron?

Occupying two defenders and finding a wide open teammate is a great offensive play. Lebron shouldn't be punished for combining the skills of a scorer with the awareness of a penetrator. He was double teamed. He found a wide open man. Down one at the end of the game that's a great shot to get.

If singe is he'll bent on trading rondo hopefully pax takes all our picks and whoever Boston wants. Get rondo here.

Greg Monroe, Steph Curry, and Eric Gordon were the last three 7th overall picks (before Biyombo this year). I'll take one of them.

Allen for Brewer + picks doesn't match salary wise. As I mentioned before, the Bulls' problem it their fungible guys are on multi-year deals. We're already taking 2 years of Ronnie Brewer, on you're not going to saddle us with Korver or Watson beyond this season.

Which comes down to you'd have to include Lucas, Butler, and one of Gibson or Asik.

Looking over the standings, the east is going to get a huge influx of talent in this next draft. There are 2 teams in the West with a worse record than the 9th place team in the east. There are 5 teams in the east with worse records than the the 2nd worst west team.

You can have the Charlotte pick, of course.
