Yeah it will probably come down to the Brewers and Reds. Signing Aramis, depending on how he starts the season, might be the move that keeps the Brewers in the race until Braun comes back. Don't count out the deadbirds though. With Wainwright coming back, while it won't make up for losing Pujols, it could put them in the 85 win range.

I went through the same exercise for the Reds, Brewers, and Cardinals as I did for the Cubs, in terms of stacking up their projected WAR. I had the Cardinals a half step better than the Reds and Brewers, but they have so much more variance than the others it's difficult to say how meaningful that gap is. Either way, they're right there with the Brewers and Reds.

Sources tell The Sporting News that MLB is unlikely to overturn Braun's suspension.

There were two ways he could appeal: The first would be to prove the lab made an error, but there are failsafes in place to catch errors, so the likelihood of that is extremely small. The second way he could have appealed would be to prove that the Brewers signed off on whatever it was he took, and the team had no idea he was taking the banned substance.

Look up about five posts.

he had a week off, cut him some slack

It was two, actually.

Felt like a day

Looks like Braun will be in attendance 21 Jan at the BBWAA dinner to accept his MVP award. It would be worse for him if he didn't go, but still. Awkward.

I hope Bill Conlin presents the award.

I took a brief look around and couldn't find anything. What I found was a quote from an anonymous "Brewers representative" which appears to have started the rumor mill:

Braun will be let off because he tested positive for Herpes and the medication given to him by his doctor (legal to fight this) is what caused the spike. Braun and his lawyers plan to go after whoever leaked the story because of HIPPA laws. That is why Braun has not made a statement and that is also why in Mark’s statement he referenced it being a 'personal issue'

Posted

lol that's just stupid. aren't they in violation of HIPPA too? "oh hey he has herpes and is gonna sue those people that talked about how he has herpes"

if it's true that valtrex or whatever causes a false positive, then braun deserves to get suspended by the league for being a dumbass with a dirty wang. if you take a medically necessary medication that would trigger a positive, you can get a waiver. scotte eyre did so with his adderall, and i'm sure others have done it as well.

I don't know if it's even a real statement, but yeah -- it seems like disclosing something like that would be a violation of HIPAA, unless Braun waives it.

Is he really going to come out publicly as having an incurable STD to save 50 games in one season? I don't think that's how it will really shake out. I'm guessing he'll take his 50 games, even if he does have it. And deny that he has it.

Wait, what? We're talking about herpes. Herpes-berpes-bo-berpes-banna-fanna-fo-ferpes....HERPES.

Too late:

"I don't wanna hit a SORE spot, but can we talk about herpes? Herpes herpes bo berpes banana fanna fo ferpes. That mark on Gorbachev's head? Herpes!"

I also found it really funny that when typing in herpes, Google was certain I was trying for Herman Cain.

Don't distract from my attempted question; why would he take a suspension for 50 games and the stigma of being a 'roid-head to try and hide that he has herpes?
Posted
I see your point, but I think he can still make vague denials about having used roids while still taking the suspension. If he gets off, I don't see how he would be able to hide why.

I'd have to assume that almost any player would leap at the chance to clear up (HI-YOOOOOOO!) something like this if all it meant is revealing they were taking some medicine to treat their herp.

But who really cares about hiding that? It's already out there in the public domain, he's already going to get heckled.

Well yeah, of course people are going to heckle him but right now it's just a blog anonymous rumor. Who knows where it came from or if it actually means anything.
