Dodgers just signed Harang.

Does his arm come separately now?

Doesn't Dusty still have it in a closet somewhere?

From ESPN:

David_Schoenfield: The Cubs are rebuilding. They need to rebuild. I think the bigger question: Who are the Cubs most likely TO market? Meaning: Matt Garza getting traded is more likely than the Cubs signing a big free agent.

WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE ONE OR THE OTHER?

The Cubs can rebuild the system and sign free agents from outside the system. It's the benefit of being a large market team. They are not the Rays or the Marlins.

They can also rebuild AND keep Matt Garza. Garza's young enough that even if the Cubs tank for a couple years, he can still be a very key piece of a good team.

We own him for two more years.

Surprisingly (or perhaps unsurprisingly) quiet day on the Cubs front.

The Anatole is monstrous. I am quite sure Theo and Jed are getting sloshed at the Gossip bar lounge while chatting up Boras and Lozano. Not to mention, the perfect 10 ladies who frequent this lounge. Ahh, I love Dallas.

Some of these guys just don't seem to grasp that all bad teams are not created equal. When the Rays or Brewers start to tank that's when they should think about trading away key pieces to rebuild the farm system and hope to compete again in 3-5 years. The Cubs have the money that they can go out and buy some big pieces and trade for more over the next 2 years.

With the Rule 5 and all, I figure tomorrow will be more interesting.

Yes and tonight will be very busy as well. I had the pleasure of going to the winter meetings in 2000 when it was held at the Anatole in Dallas and it was a blast. So many GM's hanging out, chatting, having a few and engaging the fans. Boras having Gammons follow him around like a puppy trying to get word on A-Rod, etc.

I think you'll hear a lot of Cubs rumors start to fly tonight.

I know, but he's young enough that you can re-sign him still in his prime.

somebody better link me to an obituary for the person who came up with the name "intentional talk" or i am going to lose my faith in humanity
