The Rangers are searching for a utility infielder that can play shortstop, but competition is fierce at the Winter Meetings, writes MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan. Sullivan says at least ten teams are looking for a player that fits that description.

Sounds more and more like Flahertys a sitting duck, not that it wasn't already assumed. If Theo and Hoyer knew how in demand guys like Barmes, Carroll, and Kennedy would be I wonder of they would have rostered him or at least tried to trade him before the roster deadline.

A. "a utility infielder that can play shortstop"

B. "Ryan Flaherty"

B does not equal A

Alright, broke down and had to have it. Chinese, enjoy all my personal data.

Epstein: "Cubs fans are ready for a winner and a plan. It may take longer than some people think, but we'll get there."

He's selling the "we aren't going to do anything big" card very hard. Maybe he's sincere, maybe he's bluffing.

I don't know, I don't think he'd flat out put it that way if he planned on building for 2012-2013. That definitely knocked my Pujols/Fielder hopes down several notches. If nothing else, I hope that they can move some guys like Soriano, Byrd, Marmol and perhaps Soto for quality prospects and young players. To be honest, if this really is the case, put me in the trade Garza for a top prospect package camp. I can't remember the last time we traded anything for a top prospect package.

BleacherNation Brett Taylor

Not sure if it was a slip, or an exaggeration, but Peter Gammons just said Matt Garza would be traded "eventually."

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, "the Tampa Bay Rays are telling teams they will talk about B.J. Upton but will have to be overwhelmed to move him."

Hmm.

Anybody's available for the right price.

Perfect off-season consists of:

In:

Fielder/Pujols

Wilson

Jackson

Polanco

Someone explain to me the desire to trade Garza

Good fix, I assume we would be giving up less for Polanco though

That'd be awesome. Payroll would be 160ish, even if we backloaded those contracts somewhat. I guess if we could unload Soriano and save 4 or 5 mill a year and Marmol, we could do that for under 150ish. With the restraints on amateur spending, I guess this possible at least.

If they move Garza, to me that means we are serious contenders for Wilson. Theo can't afford to give up that much pitching talent given the deterioration of Zambrano and the questions at the back end of the rotation. A rotation of Garza, Wilson, Zambrano, Dempster, Cashner/Wells makes for a serious contender in our Division; especially if you add Pujols/Fielder. However, if Theo covets Wilson more than Garza I can definitely see him moving Garza in order to reload our farm system.

I agree with the fix from Polanco to Headley. Headley will cost more but is a massively better option as well.

Also, is the Jackson listed Edwin Jackson? If so, I'm not all that interested in him since I think he'll cost way too much. I'd replace him with Soler or Wei-Yin Chen. Love the first two on your list, though.

I'm not a fan of the idea, but the thought would be that we could potentially get a massive haul for him. For instance, 3 top prospects would be more valuable than 2 years of Garza. I understand that thinking, but feel like any trade that would be worth it for Garza wouldn't be realistic for the other team to do.

I have complete trust in our front office, if we move Garza it will be for an almost overwhelming package of prospects. Garza would then have to be replaced by Wilson, if not, we will definitely be in for a long season.
