the bears are now 6-3 overall, 4-0 in the treymon game thread starter era.

chris williams is apparently dead, which sucks, because every highlight package surrounding the bears o-line improvement featured like six plays in which he pulled and completely destroyed someone in pursuit of forte. those highlights were awesome and i will miss them.

the chargers seem pretty mediocre, but they still have lots of scary people on offense, and it is hard to completely write off rivers. it wouldn't be surprising at all if they played us really, really tough. or if they came out and just played like garbage again.

line will likely be bears -4.5. maybe 4.

umfan, don't bet on this game.

Bears are favored by 4 and the over/under is the 4th highest of the day at 46.5. San Diego has been better agaisnt the pass than the run, but that has more to do with facing only two decent passing teams and a bunch of crap otherwise. They've had success through the air themselves, but not like the best teams, given how poorly they've done protecting the QB and throwing picks. This is a game where the Bears offense, specifically the passing game probably has to perform well. It's going to be tough, but they should be able to cover if they are for real and have hopes of playoff success.

Shawn Phillips is not a lock to play on Sunday, but with or without him, they are in deep trouble on D. Wouldn't be surprised to see Jacques Cesaire go back to starting at DE. Corey Liuget is the guy Michael Bush exposed on the right side for crazy yards. This should be a good thing for both Forte and Barber.

Cason got burned in the KC game a few times, which inspired that idiot Norv Turner to bench him in favor of the rookie Gilchrist, who proceeded to get torched by Aaron Rodgers. Hopefully Hester is healthy for this one, because between him and Knox, I'm expecting a couple of connections deep in this game. Jammer is the only decent defensive back they have, and he's no spring chicken.

The Chargers are on a 4 game skid, and this one would be a dagger in the heart of their chances of making the playoffs. Rivers has been throwing poorly and off his back foot way too much, and without an effective Rivers, they just aren't a good team. With their beat up offensive line, Rivers should spend a lot of time on his back in this game. He isn't mobile at all and needs solid protection in order to find Vincent Jackson and Vincent Brown deep. We will need to watch for the dump passes to Tolbert and Mathews.

Malcom Floyd will probably be out for this game, but Brown has turned into a legit threat and has passed Patrick Crayton on the depth chart.

I'm going to be preemptive here:

Can we please refrain from showing the photoshopped version of that toolish Rivers photo where his eyes are his mouth?

that picture is awesome

I will say that this is the game I am most concerned with over the next five because of a potential letdown and the Bears' general ineffectiveness against opposing TEs.

I recently spent about 8 months living with a die-hard Chargers fan who to this day vehemently and somewhat irrationally hates Cutler. Needless to say, this game could be beyond amusing for me. Plz don't suck, Bears.

I hate this game. I don't think the Chargers are a terrible team, and only terrible teams lose 5 games in a row. Also, the Bears have a schedule that could allow them to run the table (depending on which Raiders team shows up and how much GB cares week 16), but the Bears probably aren't going to win their last 11 games (4 already in the bag). I hope I'm proven wrong, but the Chargers are a desperate team. They are getting a few days extra rest, having played on Thursday last week. And good desperate teams usually perform well when faced against a team in a less dire situation.

Yeah, but Norv Turner coaches this team.

Taking a look at the Wild Card race, it seems likely that 4 teams (Detroit, Chicago, Dallas, and Atlanta) are fighting for 2 playoff spots. Here is a look at the remaining schedules for each:

Chicago: SD, @OAK, KC, @DEN, SEA, @GB, @ MIN

Detroit: CAR, GB, @NO, MIN, @OAK, SD, @GB

Dallas: @WAS, MIA, @ARI, NYG, @ TB, PHI, @ NYG

Atlanta: TEN, MIN, @HOU, @CAR, JAC, @NO, TB

I gotta say, Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta all have easy schedules. Obviously we hold the tiebreaker over Atlanta, but if we were to tie Dallas, they would currently win the tiebreaker with a 4-2 conference record vs. 6-3 for us. The good thing for us is that we've already played 9 of our 12 conference games, while others have played less, so they have to catch up to us (at least I think that's a good thing).

I see the Bears going 5-2 to finish 11-5, the Lions going 4-3 or 3-4 to go 10-6 or 9-7, Dallas and Atlanta each going 5-2 finishing 10-6. That leaves little room for error for the Bears.

And their offensive line is an absolute mess.

Plus they aren't good. Say what you want about their theoretical talent level, but sd finished second last year in a weak division and are as mediocre as their record suggests. They may not be terrible but they sure as he'll aren't good. If Chicago loses it's a letdown on their end.

Agree. The Bears should win this game, all things considered. Better team, at home, west coast team travelling to central time zone. But the extra time off (after 3 games in 16 days) and the desperation scares me.

I get the desperation talk but I'm not sure it applies to San Diego. They've started slow in previous years before turning it on, but they've also completely crapped the bed midseason and ruined their chances. People have been talking about the unbelievable talent on that team for 6-7 years, but I think the talent has declined and they are just another AFC West team, albeit with a quarterback who may not be a joke.
