Todd Hundley.

This is asinine. The fact that he thought Todd Hundley was a jerk does not disprove anything.

No, he thought he was a worthless teammate and a bad player. Which, in fact, he was. Nothing to do with race with Hundley.

Now you're getting it.

Oh, so it was just players who were not performing? Wow, welcome to fans of any team in any sport.

It's not racism how he dislikes players who are bad. It's racism how he inevitably falls on racial stereotypes to describe them.

Are we talking about A-Ram here? Have I called Z lazy?

So if a Latin player truly is lazy, and I observe this personally, would it be racist for me to describe him as lazy?

Hint: there's another explanation besides racism here.

Look, I am not a Zambrano fan because he is lazy and he doesn't get the most out of his abilities. However, I agree that he is a tremendously talented guy who should be a staff ace if he could ever learn to control his emotions and would report to spring training in shape and would work hard enough during the season to stay that way.

And because of this he is a racist? Wow!

If you describe enough Latin players as lazy while you haven't hated a white player since 2002, then it starts to become a pattern.

He covers the Latino stereotype spectrum by calling Z both lazy and hot tempered and fiery.

LOL Zambrano IS hot tempered and fiery. You going to dispute that???

Pointing that fact out isn't automatically racist.

Nope. Using it seemingly as a default criticism, however, is rather telling.

not to defend Kaplan, but just to be clear...you don't think Z is hot tempered and you don't think he reported out of shape?

How many is "enough". I know we've got Z and Ramirez so far.

I think both of those are true. I think those are true of a lot of players, but the ones being pointed out share one characteristic.

Right, it's just that all Hispanics are lazy.

The thought process behind a player being considered lazy in any sports is usually being drawn from another source beside actually seeing the players work ethic. These people who claim players are lazy usually are not around these people enough to know so it's coming from another source.

Racial stereotype could easily be one of the things that is being drawn upon to come up with this conclusion.

No, but compounded with the rest of his track record it is. Kaplan likely automatically views Z's personality as the result of his genetic heritage as opposed to his individual personality. Y'know, the "oh, of course HE'S like that"-sort of thing.

So Steve Stone, Bob Brenly, Lou Piniella, Ryan Dempster and countless other baseball managers and executives all must be racist because they call certain latin players out for not hustling or being idiots?

Good logic.

Bobby V:

"Castro needs to get his head in the game" (or something like that when he was looking back at the outfield).

What a racist comment. Keep him out of Chicago.

That's clearly how it seems to you.

Doesn't mean you're right. Racism might have nothing to do with how he got to his conclusions.

I think there's a certain amount of systemic racism in the way players are perceived, yes.

I don't believe it's unheard of for white uneducated older men to fall back on racial stereotypes even if unintentional.

So now we lump Demp in?
