It's treatable

Treatable or not, that's very serious to get lung cancer at his age

Yeah. "Treatable" is very different than "curable". You can "treat" most anything. No such thing as a lung cancer at that age, or any age for that matter, that's not very serious.

I'd be surprised if he ever sees the inside of a jail cell. Not because he's innocent-- he's not. He's guilty as hell and will be sentenced to a very long time in prison-- but because he'll off himself before it gets to that point. Really, what are his options at this point? Go to prison in solitary for his protection or kill himself.

He's probably too much of a coward to do the right thing.

I'm frankly surprised he hasn't done it already. And I'll be even more surprised if he doesn't do it before he goes to prison. Thanks to that judge, he's got at least a few months of freedom left.

More or less serious than ignoring a child rape when he was 10 years younger?

? - not sure what you are even getting at. I'm just making a comment about his cancer. That's it.

Based on the numbers it doesn't seem most pedophiles are too keen on, er, offing themselves just because they've been caught.

Jeez, should I have put this in green?

I'll take that as "no I did not."

And now, sadly, those fears have been realized: Sara Ganim of the Patriot-News of Harrisburg is reporting today that Victim 1—the boy whose allegation three years ago triggered everything about the case into motion—had to leave school because he's being harassed by fellow students.

From Ganim's story:

Officials at Central Mountain High School in Clinton County weren't providing guidance for fellow students, who were reacting badly about Joe Paterno's firing and blaming the 17-year-old, said Mike Gillum, the psychologist helping his family. Those officials were unavailable for comment this weekend.

The lone silver lining, Gillum added, is that Victim 1 is drawing strength from seeing other alleged victims continue to speak up.

Such a great state.

That same fall, Dr. Triponey's office suspended Dan Connor, a Penn State linebacker, who had been accused of making harassing calls to a retired assistant coach. Shortly after the suspension was handed down, Mr. Paterno ordered the player to suit up, according to a person familiar with the matter. Dr. Triponey informed the player that if he suited up for practice, he would be in violation of his suspension and could face expulsion. Mr. Connor says he recalled being suspended only for games, not practice.

The incident prompted Mr. Spanier to visit Dr. Triponey at her home. Dr. Triponey confirms he told her that Mr. Paterno had given him an ultimatum: Fire her, or Mr. Paterno would stop fund-raising for the school. She says Mr. Spanier told her that if forced to choose, he would choose her over the coach—but that he did not want to have to make that choice.

That's hardly damning, the part you've quoted, anyway. She stuck her nose in places it didn't belong. How many jobs has she been fired from now? Just wondering...

But seriously, if you think an administrator should have the authority to suspend (for 4 games) student-athletes (with clean records) for making prank phone calls, then you are an idiot. That's an issue for the Head Coach. He would've handled that situation appropriately. Same with shooing arrows into a wall. Those were minor instances that she drew a line in the sand with Joe on, and she didn't need to. By the time the real issue came up (the fight that started when the student in the apartment slapped the football player's girlfriend.. Funny how that gets left out. Not excusing it, but it's not like they were on some sort of random beat down mission) she had already burnt her fair share of bridges.

Paterno never had a problem with males sticking their appendages where they didn't belong. Is he sexist now?

If she was overstepping her responsibilities, why would it take JoePa threatening to pull funding in order to get it to stop?
