And then there's this:

One more thing about PSU: I read Paterno's autobiography when I was in high school. This was back when I fantasized routinely about becoming a big time football coach, before I found out that coaching is a shitty job with long hours. And I remember this passage from the book about his stance on profanity:

I don't allow any swearing in my home. Anybody can use four-letter words. Why not show you're different by not using them?

Later on, I went to a football camp and one of the coaches there was an assistant at Penn State. I asked him if it was true that Paterno never cursed.

HIM: Hell, no. He swears ALL THE [expletive] TIME.

I lost a father that day. I think we all did.

Well that's being dramatic.

Old dudes like that will swear every other word around other men, but won't say damn in front of a woman. I assumed he was talking about his home-home there. Even if he was talking about the football field, you "lost a father that day??"

Come on.

from the deadspin funbag:
By the way, I wish columnists would stop emphasizing that victims of Jerry Sandusky are essentially leading ruined lives. Imagine being victimized by that piece of [expletive] and then reading all over the place that you have virtually no hope of leading a normal life. If you've ever been a victim of abuse, you need reassurance that your life HAS NOT been destroyed. Instead, it seems like columnists have gone out of their way to try and emphasize how emotionally damaged these people will be now, as if you didn't already know that being raped is a traumatic event. It's not helping. Craggs described it as, "Moral showboating... the 'I'm more against child abuse than you' [expletive]... it's 'I pity the children more than you.'" EXACLTY. I don't need your help to see the ugly truth of it all, Lupica. The grand jury report did the trick quite nicely.

I've been meaning to say something like this as well. It's one thing to discuss amongst your friends how much your life would be screwed up if this happened, but these writers who keep talking about the miserable lives all of the victims must now have have gone overboard. I think half of them would be disappointed to learn that several of the guys have adjusted to life post-rape.

It's kind of a balancing act. There are actually people (extremely, immeasurably stupid people, but people nonetheless) who think that because the kids didn't get killed and time has passed that they should be over it by now. While it's not fair to paint the victims as being totally hopeless and useless, it is pretty important for people to understand the lasting effects of abuse.

Did McQueary stop the rape and talk to the police?

In the email obtained by The Morning Call, McQueary wrote that he "did have discussions with police and with the official at the university in charge of police" following the alleged incident between Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant coach, and a boy. McQueary also wrote that he "is getting hammered for handling this the right way or what I thought at the time was right."

"I had to make tough impacting quick decisions," McQueary wrote.

He's expected to appear tonight on CBS Evening News, according to a tweet from CBS.

A massive coverup would certainly make things worse.

Isn't "the official at the university in charge of police" Schultz?

i'm assuming he's claiming to have told the state college police, not the penn state campus police.

penn state campus is located in university park, not state college, and any crimes that occur on the campus fall under the jurisdiction of university park police.

considering that they describe it as "official in charge of the police" i'm sure that they're talking about schultz. he was the administrator appointed to oversee the police.

Now there's an Arizona man who is claiming sexual abuse by ANOTHER Penn State professor (unrelated the Sandusky's scandal) that went ignored by the administration. FTH

Paterno sold his house to his wife for $1 in July.

That can't possibly protect his assets can it? I mean, if that's the case wouldn't everyone facing a losing civil suit just 'gift' all their assets to other people?

the campus police is not going to have exclusive jurisdiction over crimes committed on campus. for example, i don't think you go to campus jail if you murder 20 people on campus.

I propose to change the thread about Jerry Sandusky to the title "Jerry Sandusky" and not someone who didn't molest anyone.

I agree the thread title is a bit nebulous. What about "Joe Paterno, the pedophile enabler" ?

Yeah. All the jailers are sorority girls. I think I've seen this on skinimax.
