I live in Los Angeles, so I don't get the breaking reports on Chicago sports.

I really don't understand this.

Off the radio. I guess you'd have to read the post in context to understand it.

A) Radio doesn't provide much in the terms of breaking news.

B) If you give a crap about it it is extremely easy to listen to radio in other cities.

C) If any Chicago area radio station breaks anything remotely interesting it will be everywhere else momentarily.

Not everywhere. But usually here faster than most. What's it to you where I go for my breaking Cubs news?

I never complained about the banter in threads like this. I never said it shouldn't be here. I just posted some actual info on what Kevin Goldstein thinks, said that actual info is better than banter and made a joke about it. If you'd like to try to change my opinion on this or ridicule me for liking actual info over silly back and forth, go right ahead. I just don't have time to join in right now. Gotta go.

Yeah, the dissemination of information is pretty much instantaneous on the internet. If one is being vigilant, they'll probably know what's going on before the sports talk radio host has time to spit it out.

I don't care about changing your opinion, I just think it's asinine to whine about "silly back and forth" on a freaking message board which exist solely because of silly back and forth.

Slightly on topic but not really. Was looking at the Cubs payroll situation....is it true that after next season, Soriano will be the only Cub on the books that is due to make more than $7 mil per season?

There's Marmol, but I can't think of anyone else.

Twitter has become the place for breaking news.

The problem is that even if someone does have breaking news, there are usually 36 others with conflicting reports.

Have you ever even been on Twitter? That doesn't happen. Unless you followed Scott Swaim, which on second thought is probably something you would have done.

It usually doesn't happen. But if it's something that is big enough to be national news and everyone's waiting on, like Darvish, it gets ridiculous.

I really don't remember much ridiculousness with Darvish either. There was lot of speculation, but I wouldn't consider that as "conflicting". Pretty much everyone thought it would be the Rangers or the Blue Jays, and they were pretty much right.

The only conflicting stuff I can recall was probably Swaim and some douche in Toronto who thought he was the next great sports journalist and ended up looking like a moron. As long as you don't follow bs accounts of some dude who "knows a few insiders", you're not going to get horribly misleading news reports.

Rocket, don't tell him that. Jim Bowden doesn't need more twitter followers.

The night before it was announced I was following and just hit yu darvish in the search. Every few minutes, some other team supposedly officially won the bid.

So you went to see what the entire internet was saying and you were surprised it was conflicting?

This is amazing.

All I really follow as far as sports news goes on Twitter are MLBTR and Bruce Miles and as of recently Kevin Goldstein. I usually use the search. If for example you typed Pujols in the search box the night before he signed you'd ge multiple reports of if and with whom he had signed.

Aside from Miles, MLBTR, and Goldstein who are some good ones to follow for such things?

Again, you're still surprised when you looked to see what the bajillion people on twitter were saying and it was conflicting?

As for the best twitter writers I'd say just the guys like Rosenthal, Bob Nightengale, Stark, Olney, Jon Heyman and Knobler would probably have you covered.

Not if some random guy says Cespedes to Cubs, but if there's somebody who at least passes it off as somewhat credible, IE Cespedes to Cubs on 7/42 deal as reported by WGN 720, I'll tend to entertain it to some degree. There was a lot of that type of thing on the Darvish posting night.

I've got news for you: random people often make [expletive] up and cite credible sources.

Googling a player's name in search of credible news is not a sound strategy.

just follow the people ct mentioned and they'll cover all the bases for the player news you need, you won't need to search.

and for cubs news, bleachernation is a good follow.

If you want breaking news as soon as it breaks, you have to accept some rumor and unconfirmed reports. It's a race to be first, with being right most of the time considered good enough. If you only want news that's 100% absolutely confirmed, you're going to have to wait until it's posted in an article typically on a couple of mainstream sources. You can't really have both.
