My understanding is that "agreeing on the process" replaces Rickett/Kenney vs. Lucchino with Epstein vs. Cherington. More rational process.

I guess the Red Sox finally figured out it wasn't going to be all that smart to pay Theo 7 mill next year while he's sitting around throwing paper airplanes in the office.

so after the rangers win the next 3 games do you think the cubs will have a joint theo/pujols press conference on tuesday?

I really hope Theo gets Albert.

Albert > Prince

Better hitter, fielder, better body for aging.

Just IMO, I know there are many who view Prince as the better option, and that surely can be argued.

Not to hijack this thread, but Prince will be 27 at the start of next season, and Albert 32. Let's say they each demanded an 8 year deal, just for giggles. At the end, that puts Prince at 35 and Albert at 40. Are you saying Pujols would be better from ages 37-40 than Prince at ages 32-35? I know it would be speculation, and I know Prince is hefty, but that just seems completely absurd.

I told my son (8 year old) about the hiring of Theo. I said, "son, the cubs have hired a guy to run the team who has the same philosophy of baseball as you do."

He said, "Oh, he'll have players who get on first base?"

YES!

Of course, to recap the philosophy, I had to quiz the boy. . ..

If you get on first you. . . . . . . (he says) score more.

If you score more you. . . . . win games

If you win games you. . . . . go to the playoffs

If you go to the play offs. . . . . .you can win the world series.

Smart kid. . . .proud pappa!

That definitely seems to increase the chances of a reasonable resolution. Lucchino is a nut job. Also guess you have to trust Theo's judgement in deciding who he is giving up.

Hate to be a wet blanket, but I would very much like to know what the compensation is. Kind of scares me that they're saving it for a seperate announcement. Makes me think it's something on the huge side.

Doesn't sound like the compensation is agreed upon yet. Selig stepped in and said "let him go to Chicago, we'll figure out the rest later."

Sanity prevails. Having Epstein and Cherington negotiate this will take a lot of the emotion out of the process, and I have to believe from everything I've read that emotion (and a lack of recent precedent) was what was holding this up.

I guess I am more just of the opinion that I am afraid of Prince gaining weight in his 30s and the fact that Albert is just super human and clearly the better player of the two. I said Prince could surely be argued as the one to sign and age was the main reason.

Anyway, probably not the right place to debate this.

Two main reasons for the existence and rationality of that belief: Prince's weight vs Pujols' excellent physical fitness and Pujols being a once in a lifetime, transcendent talent.

One of the biggest Cubs moves of my lifetime

I still think this is the biggest moment for the Cubs in any of our lifetimes

That's what I've been saying. And I really don't think any two of our prospects will/would have the impact on this franchise that a team of Epstein/Hoyer will have. After the crap we've had in the font office...this is really a momentous occasion.

I just trust the Cubs front office to evaluate carefully and decide which, if either, they want.

Man, that's fun to say.
