  1. Thanks for the help guys! I was curious as to what this little memento is, and at least now I know it's likely exactly what I thought it was - a child's ticket - even if I'm not entirely sure how old it is.
  2. Hello all, I know I rarely (if ever) post here, I'm more of a lurker, but I came across something Cubs related that I was hoping I might get some help identifying. While in a used bookstore a couple months ago, I came across a copy of Wait Till Next Year, and having never read it, I figured I'd buy it. Inside the book was a ticket stub of some sort from the Cubs that looks somewhat old, and having no idea what exactly this was, I figured I'd come on here to ask the best Cub experts I know. Below are two images (one the front, one the back) of the stub. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y125/Pripat/IMG_0656.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y125/Pripat/IMG_0657.jpg If anyone could tell me what the heck this thing is to satisfy my personal curiosity, I'd appreciate it.
  3. Nice to see a team other than the Cubs strand runners at second and third with no outs.
  4. How not close I think is probably the question. I don't know if they'll do much worse than 67 or 68 wins, which isn't too far from the 2011 Cubs.
  5. Sure, Maholm is really keeping the Cubs in this one.
  6. So who is the Cubs's long guy? Something tells me with 41 pitches in the first, Maholm isn't going to last past the 4th inning.
  7. Dave Cameron on FanGraphs Audio said it best...if this had been in place during the 2001 draft, Mauer is the starting quarterback for FSU. That for me, more than anything, is why this CBA is bad for baseball.
  8. As others have mentioned here, I'd expect the market for starting pitching to be stiff this year, driven by both the Red Sox collapse being inextricably tied to its starting pitching and the Yankees needing at least one new starting pitcher (not to mention the Angels and others). Oswalt is only 34, and while he has a history of back problems, it seems like this was the first year that it really gave him any significant trouble. Given both of these factors, I'd be surprised if Oswalt didn't get more than two years, and like others here, I would be uncomfortable with the Cubs giving him any more than two years. Much as I think he'd be a decent third or fourth starter (and if healthy, a second), I think other teams will overpay for him.
  9. Sanity prevails. Having Epstein and Cherington negotiate this will take a lot of the emotion out of the process, and I have to believe from everything I've read that emotion (and a lack of recent precedent) was what was holding this up.
  10. If this is right, I can't imagine what it is the Cubs DID give up. How in the heck did they wear the Red Sox down that much over the course of week or so?
  11. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2011/10/20/this_kind_of_octoberfest_is_leaving_a_sour_taste/ I ask you, who WOULDN'T want to work in this kind of work environment?
  12. Anyone have any idea if the Cubs are going to have to give compensation to the Padres for Hoyer? If so, how much? It seems incredible to me that the Cubs are going to have to do this twice in one offseason for two front office guys, and it would presumably have to be more for Hoyer since this sounds like more of a lateral move and he's under contract for more years than Epstein.
