According to one baseball source with close ties to Francona, Francona told staff members the day before the club announced that it was not exercising his club option that Epstein wanted him to return as manager.

From SOSH

That's a horribly written sentence.

I kind of figured that the decision to let Francona go was on Henry and Lucchino.

Haha yeah don't shoot the messenger. I didn't write it. However, if it's not Ryno, it has to be Tito right?

We've gone from Jim Hendry to Theo Epstein as our GM. Did anyone actually think this was going to be the case at the beginning of this past season? I'm still in the numb phase, hopefully tomorrow it actually sets in.

I'm with you brother. I'm still pretty drunk though lol. I got woken up today with the official news, and it still hasn't sunk in yet.

In case you needed to be reminded that Theo isn't a baseball moron

Seriously, listen to this... it's getting even more awesome to hear him say these things.

Jesus [expletive] Christ.

...

I'm going to give this man so many babies.

Yeah, he's gonna be a [expletive] revelation. And of course many Cubs fans are going to be put off by his forward thinking approach, but they can all [expletive] off.

You listen to something like that and then reflect on the disjointed, multiple personality disorder mess that has been Cubs management for all of recent memory, and you begin to realize just how big this has the potential to be.

For the first time in god knows how long, a legitimate, distilled organizational philosophy. And whether you agree with the nature of that philosophy (i.e. you are a miserable luddite), you must recognize how important the consistency that will come with it is.

How this will all pan out remains to be seen, but this is a really exciting time to be a Cubs fan.

I had to go back and read some of the Gary Hughes interview after listening to this.

Holy [expletive] you're alive.

I can only imagine how active this site will be if we become the Red Sox.

It's funny, because the old school guys continue to think it's the old school stuff like "clutch hitting" and all the other crap because those things come with winning. Obviously, if you're good, some of your hitters have gotten hits in big situations. It's just hilarious that they'll think they were right all along because they are too blind to see the forest for the trees.

THAT THEO EPSTEIN GUY WITH HIS NEWFANGLED STATS. HE SAID RBI'S AREN'T IMPORTANT BUT LOOK AT ALL DESE RBI'S DEY WIN DA GAMES WITH.

Yea, total baseball hard-on after that interview.

Stresses: "Our Business model"

Which is to win 95 games every year =P~ =P~

Kaplan vs. Theo, the interview.

Hah, that's going to be hilarious.

Remember when we thought Quade vs. Kaplan was awesome?

It's funny because Kaplan thinks Theo's awesome, but he clearly has no idea why he does.
