Wasn't sure where to put this but the Daily Herald has seen fit to make Bruce's Blog a subscription only service.

Sign of the times I guess.

If true, I'm sorry Bruce, I enjoy your reporting, but I'm not going to pay for it when I can get tons of free information on the web. I guess I can understand why the DH is doing this, although I think it will blow up in their face. They must be one step away from bankrupcy to be trying that.

PS I was able to access Bruce's blog without any issues just now.

I think the old ones. But I'm pretty sure new content will be pay only. Bruce was telling people he'd still correspond via email.

The entire newspaper's online content is behind a paywall now.

How so? I read it this morning and just checked it out.

Sorry, should have been more specific. There's a free article limit per month (like NYT) and then the paywall kicks in.

Sorry, not paying for any sports reporter content.

Too much free stuff out there, and let's face it: it's just people talking about games.

They'd fit right in to the Chicago newspaper scene if that's the case.

Shame. I guess I'll stop going to the Daily Herald's site now. Bruce's blog was the only reason I went there, since I'm not in Chicago.

Anyhow, here's hoping Bruce keeps up his exemplary work and shows up on Cubs sites like he always has. For my money, one of the best sports writers out there, due to his willingness to interact with the fans.

If it's the NYT system of limited free views, I guess I'll still be using those to read Bruce's blog.

I have no doubts that Bruce's exemplary work will continue.

I can see that the DH wants to capitalize on his production. It's just that......paying for internet sports content is a tough sell.

It costs money to produce it. Why shouldn't it cost money to read it?

It's not a matter of should or should not. It's stupid to pay $20 for a month of content on the daily herald website. It costs money to produce ESPN.com's content but they don't charge to see the majority of it. It costs money to produce a hell of a lot of things that don't cost the consumer a nickel to view.

Because there's too much free content out there. I suspect you know this already and are just being Kyle.

They seem to think their content is better than the free content.

I agree it'll probably fail. But giving the product away for free will certainly fail. I'd rather see the industry take the hail mary than just kneel it out.

ESPN.com's content is run at a loss in order to advance the overall brand.

That is simply hilarious given you are talking about not being willing to pay for it.
