Yeah -- got to remember, it would be with no offensive line and precious few valid receiving targets.

I think Jay does a fine job given his circumstances. Turn the tables on this thing: how would Cutler perform with top protection and great targets getting open all the time, and finishing routes as expected?

i wouldn't take brady over cutler in this offense. you saw how bad he looked against the lions against pressure. the only qb that moves like cutler in that group is freeman.

Preseason. And how many INTs has Cutler thrown because of pressure the last 2 years?

Don't get me wrong, Cutler has adapted really well with the constant pressure he's faced the last 2 years. I'm just not sure I'd take him over Brady.

I'm making a bold prediction that Jay Cutler will throw for 3800 yards this year. Looking at the shape he's in, and the improved footwork and accuracy that he's displayed this preseason, I think he's ready to make that next step into stardom.

John Clayton ranks Cutler below Flacco, Schaub, Freeman, Bradford, Cassel and 16th overall -- LOL.

I'd take Freeman, Bradford and maybe Schaub ahead of him.

not with our offense

I can see that argument with Schaub but I'd still take Freeman and Bradford over him. Bradford had the worst WR corps in the league last year and Freeman had an absurd TD/INT ratio as well. I would think those two (especially Bradford) will only get better in due time.

3800 isnt that crazy, even in this offense. He's already had a 4,500 yard season in his career.

You're probably right, but I think both those guys are at a point where they'll either continue to improve, or take a step back. I don't see it as a given that they'll continue upward. Probably, but not certainly.

Harvey Unga’s absence no longer may be a factor with the 80-man roster: The Chicago Bears have placed the running back on the reserve/left squad list, according to a league source.

That means they have a roster exemption for the BYU running back. Unga cannot be paid while on the list.

Nobody on ESPN has the Bears in the playoffs. 3 ppl have the Lions as a wild card and 4 people have the Cowboys in the playoffs (Schefter has them as division champs).

Doesn't surprise me, everyone thinks the Bears were flukes last year. From a national perspective, I'm not sure I blame them. Then again, we did beat 2 of the other 3 conference finalists (Packers, Jets) last year, beat everyone's favorite, the Eagles when they were pretty untouchable, etc. I guess I would have expected at least 1 person to pick us.

But when you are in a division with everyone's favorites to win the title, and everyone's favorite surprise playoff team, its hard to be considered.

When most people considered you a fringe contender last year and your offseason sucked, they aren't going to think much higher of you.

While I can't put much stock into any of those guys or their picks, I wonder how the Bears brass sees these picks when you consider that the Bears were in the NFC championship game last year, AND had almost the most money, of any playoff teams, to spend this offseason.

My guess is they don't have an opinion on the matter, and Lovie is more than happy to use the "disrespect" card. I definitely think the Bears have managed to never be overrated in the Lovie era. It suits him well.

freeman got sacked half as much as cutler and bradford would get smooshed and go away forever.

When the Bears brought in Cutler and Pace, plenty of people thought they were a potential SuperBowl team. Actually, I think Peter King had them in it vs. the Steelers. I know SI did, but not sure if it was King specifically.

Yeah I believe he had the Bears beating the Packers in the NFC title game

Well the money to spend doesnt factor into it because they only used maybe 20% of the money they had available to spend.

The thing is, many times the teams who are deemed to have good offseasons still suck.

and yet freeman got sacked half as much despite cutler being one of the best scramblers not named vick in the league.

The argument for the two teams being close in OL quality is based on rating the Bears run defense as #21 and their pass defense as the worst. For their overall rating to be worse than Tampas, their pass defense needed to be a lot worse.
