Am I the only one who prefers to talk about the next game rather than hanging out in last week's thread?

Chicago is a 1 point favorite.

Do people bet on preseason games? If so, wow. Just seems so arbitrary.

I just want these doofs to continue to give me a little hope that Atlanta won't embarass them next weekend.

I'd rather watch a replay of the NFC title game last year than watch a 4th preseason game. If I recall correctly, last year Jay Cutler handed off 3 times and that was all we saw of the starting offense. Then the rest of the game is people about to get cut.

Chester Taylor: "I just took the words in the wrong way."

Chester Taylor: "No, I don't want to be released. I like it here in Chicago."

Good news. Peter King has the Bears 8-8, the Lions 10-6, and the Falcons winning the Super Bowl. Since King is always incredibly wrong, this can only be a good omen for the Bears.

That could mean they finish 6-10.

In all seriousness, I haven't seen anyone so far predict the Bears to make the playoffs this year. I think most media members contend that last year was a giant fluke, continuing the belief from last year.

Eventually the Lions actually will be a winning team. But until then, I just can't bring myself to predict it. They've been bad for so long. They need to prove it first before I give them any respect.

It's funny that the Lions are continually picked to be good, and they usually suck.

The Bears are usually picked to suck, yet we somehow wind up putting together solid seasons every once in awhile.

About the Chester Taylor situation. I think I'd actually keep him at this point. With Khalil Bell playing special teams and Marion Barber's history of violence and always a risk for injury, Taylor may be necessary. Harvey Unga missing all but a week of camp/preseason pretty much rules him out as even the 4th RB. So, given the choice of Chester vs. only carrying 3 RBs, the Bears probably gotta keep Taylor. Chester does provide some pretty good pass blocking (Forte is pretty bad when faced vs. anything other than a CB) so he does have some value in a 1 or 2-back set on 3rd down.

As for this game, I'd really like to see some guys step up. Really worried about this team's depth on defense. Haven't been impressed with any of the backup CBs (not counting DJ Moore, who is the starting nickel). Bowman, Graham, and J Moore need to show something. Haven't been impressed with the backup LBs. JT Thomas makes the team as the 5th LB because of just being drafted, but he'd be better as a 6th. 4th DE stepping up would be nice, but may have to go outside the organization for help here.

It would be nice if a few of these guys started to show something, yes.

Looking at those first 3 games, I'm concerned in general. It's not a favorable launch-pad for our season. That's 3 quality opponents right out of the gate.

Right now, I'm thinking hook or crook methodology: steal 1 of the 3, that will be enough to put my mind somewhat at ease.

Yeah, just don't start 0-3 and we'll be okay. If we can somehow win at least two of those three we should be in great shape for another playoff run. To be honest the schedule is pretty soft after that for the most part with the exception of the game in Philly in November and GB on Christmas Day. The AFC West doesn't scare me at all.

Ya bringing in Brown as a cheap 3rd DE seems like a no-brainer. Wootton hasn't gotten back to the field yet and I haven't heard a thing about the other DE's on the roster.

Unfortunately the opposite of 8-8 is still 8-8.

I don't know about that.

I'm not sure how the salary cap hit comes into play with his bonuses from the uncapped year, but I can only guess there would be some hit from cutting him. Obviously with the space this year you can both fit him in there and afford the hit from cutting him, but I'd rather not have him count at all against next season. Also, while Unga may not be ready on week 1 to be the 4th RB, I would think he could be ready down the line when it actually matters.

It wouldn't be the worst thing to keep him around for depth purposes, but how useful is that depth when the guy was as god awful as he was last year. Some undrafted rookie should be able to do the same thing.

The only thing he could possibly bring would be the pass blocking, which I presume will take a newer player some time to ramp up.

Meh. Do I think Cutler should be higher? Maybe. But I'm not going to argue them saying Cutler is 16th because in my mind Cutler is in a pretty close bunch with most of those guys. In terms of talent, he is way above all of them except maybe Bradford. But if you are looking at someone like Bradford who had a mostly good year as a rookie QB past year and you look at Cutler who threw 26 picks 2 years ago which led the league and is middle of the road in a lot of the QB stats people use to evaluate QBs, it's not completely insane for someone to put Bradford ahead. I wouldn't, but like I said I wouldn't pick a fight with someone who does because it's close enough for me.

As for Alex Brown, why not just pick him up? I don't see why we wouldn't. Cheap, another body, knows the system.
