I guess most of these wounds have healed for me. The guy's an abject moron who operates without a filter. What isn't amusing?

The Cubs are in the position they are in largely because they have been run like a team that agrees with the nonsense Baker spouted. Maybe if he didn't take himself so seriously I'd find his schtick amusing.

I wasn't around in 2003, but I recall seeing an image of a Bellhorn Mobile? Was it a station wagon with a bunch of antlers and horns on it? Or am I imagining things?

That exists. I don't have it, but I know it exists.

People referred to it as the Horny Wagon.

I think we can all agree that only white players are ever called gritty but Cubs fans have hated them some white players too. Or have we already forgotten about Aaron Miles? I can't think of his name but he was a switch hitting 2nd/ 3rd baseman that struck out a lot and went on to do well a couple seasons with the Red Sox. He had one of the better obp % on the team but Dusty refused to have him lead off.

Also, anyone from the Cubs.com days should remember the vitriol that was (rightfully) thrown at Todd Hundley. Compared to Hundley, Milton Bradley's Cubs career was a love fest.

ok, so because a white player has been booed, that means the slurs shouted at black and latino players is the same thing?

the booing of a white player is in no way shape or form proof that racism doesn't exist.

And the fact that racists shout slurs at black and latino players doesn't mean all people yelling at them are motivated by racial reasons.

The main reason anybody yells at an athlete is the irrational fanaticism they have about the team they support, and the responsibility they place on those athletes to deliver results.

And racial epithets are ready-made labels conveniently called upon in the heat of the moment. There are no equivalents WRT Caucasians, IMO. This is in no way meant to excuse the use of slurs. And if it matters, I'm not white.

anyone who throws a racial slur out "in the heat of the moment" for sure uses said slurs when not "in the heat of the moment". they're only convenient because they are a part of their vocabulary, which they shouldn't be.

the temporary insanity defense doesn't work.

I always think it sounds incriminating when somebody uses a slur and then says "it just slipped". To me, that implies that the person had these words on their mind before and they accidentally say them out loud.

There are times and situations where a racial epithet may be necessary. Yelling them at people you are paying to entertain you isn't one of them.

There are plenty of bad words in the English language that can take the place of racial epithets. There really isn't a good time for any of them.

I'd really like it if Prior were still pitching for the Cubs and Zambrano hadn't had a decade of use put on his arm in three years.

Secretly, we're all a little racist. It's why it'll never truly disappear until the aliens come and we realize we're all assholes.

Whose more racist, white people or black people? Black people, cause everything white people hate about black people, black people reallly hate about black people.
