‘‘Oh, and one [more] thing I’d like to say: I wouldn’t trade my career for his. I think I’ve got a way better career than he did.’’

Gold.

Whatever, Rammy. Do you have an official membership card to "The Lemons"? No? Then I think Holly's got the upper hand.

I'll take Hollandsworth - at least he shows up for the full season.
You can keep your career stats Error-miss. I'll take Hollandsworth's World Series ring. What a putz!!

There is a whole world of Cubs fans who truly believe Ramirez is lazy, doesn't try, doesn't lead, and basically doesn't do anything but promote losing. I hate it.

We have the worst fanbase.

You know who else was the best player the Cubs had but wasn't much of a leader and was unwilling to do things like bat in a different part of the order? Ryne Sandberg. That guy never made his teammates better andhe insisted on always batting 2nd. You know who else didn't care? Ernie Banks. He refused to play SS where he was good and insisted on playing 1st base. Anybody can play 1st base. Talk about lazy.

You who really hustled? Doug Dascenzo? Boy was he scrappy!

Pretty much same thing he said the other day but ARam again commented on Hollandsworth.

"He's never in the clubhouse, so I don't know how you come up with that," Ramirez said. "In my point of view, they are getting better."

Ramirez was upset that Hollandsworth, a former teammate, criticized his effort without talking to him.

"They change when they work in the TV or media," he said. "Go ask Barney or Castro. I'm not going to get into a war with Hollandsworth over that kind of stuff. I've got too much class for that. I wouldn't trade my career for his. But I do wonder why he never said that to me as a player."

Well of course he is lazy and doesn't lead. He doesn't jump all over the place and yell at people on the field or in the dug out so he must be a shotty leader. I know because I watch the games and that's all the evidence I need. When was the last time one of these young players was quoted in an article about how they did something wrong and Ramirez set them straight? Ever? If it's not in an article, then it just ain't happening, apparently. Pack your bags and go somewhere that they value homeruns and OPS, Aramis. We need leadership and hustle.

erik and A New Era have weighed in...can davearm, Ballgame64, and Benchwarmer be far behind?

Please go to page one of this thread and see my comments. I have no use for Todd Hollandsworth and love Ramirez' response.

I'd like to hear Hollandsworth respond to ARam's last sentence. Dude bitches about ARam not making the players around him better. Well how come he never took ARam under his wing and tried to make him a "better leader"?

Hollandsworth sucked so it wasn't his job to make his teammates better, it's on the really good players like Ramirez to make the other players better, and when they fail to do that we can say they actually weren't good.

I believe inspiring Ramirez to be a better leader falls neatly under the "veteran presence" responsibility that meatheads like Hollandsworth love to play up.

i think this is a fantastic line of reasoning. that quite often in any line of life, jobs or otherwise, people that are not as good blame people that are good for not halving their good-ness and communing it among the others, whether that is possible or not. it is a multifold scapegoat, the best kind for suffering fools like hollandsworth.

Hollandsworth said Ramirez not going to the all-star game on 3 minutes notice proves that he's not helping the young guys on the team.

Ramirez's teammates performing poorly while Ramirez has done well also proves this for some reason.

SCREW THAT GUY FOR HAVING A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN ME!!

is this your new thing now? barge into a thread where everyone is ripping on someone for saying or doing something stupid and tacitly defend that person by accusing the board of groupthink? because i hate to tell you, (a) it's annoying and (b) we already have davearm to do that.

Holly looks a little flustered. And he said passion at least 80 times.

He should look flustered. My GUESS is that he realizes his comments were stupid. At least I hope that's the case. I'm not exactly a fan of his media work, but I also never thought of him as one of those Chicago media d-bags before either.

That argument was completely incoherent. It made absolutely no sense. He knew it, too, which is why he devolved into simply pandering to the fanbase, telling them how great they are and how they deserve a title more than anything.

What a [expletive] joke.
