    Not sticking up for Dusty at all, but the scenario you just suggested is one where Mike Maddux may leave his pitcher in. He was the pitching coach for Nolan Ryan's team who was very open about ignoring pitch counts. Now would Maddux have let Prior stay out there during that inning without so much as a mound visit? I doubt it. Just saying, Maddux isn't going to make that decision based on pitch count. As someone posted, they were very good about not abusing pitchers though. So while they build up arm strength thru conditioning, Maddux isn't likely to have guys throwing 130+ pitches all the time. I agree. He's not going to make that decision based solely on pitch count. I have not read all of the posts regarding pitcher usage etc. The discussions I have read, however, there seems to be a disconnect between conditioning on off days (Which is what the Rangers are doing different than everyone else.) and pitch counts in actual games (Which is what Dusty did different than everyone else.). Again, Not sure if that point has been made and I am simply too lazy to read through everything.

    Wow. That escalated in a hurry. I signed up in January of 2008 and I am proud to say I have moved up about 4000 spots to 74093 in the almost four years. I guess I know where my retirement is going.

    Vaguely related, In May of 2008 we went to Chicago and it was beautiful the day we went sightseeing. The night we went to Wrigley, the temp dropped to about 40 and the cubs couldn't keep sweatshirts and stocking caps on the shelf. Just sayin'

    This argument in particular doesn't make any sense to me. As a fan, why wouldn't you want a manager who would bring in fan support and revenue streams that would allow your team's owner to field a huge payroll and aquire more premium talent? Oh, because of some deluded and largely self imagined sense of superiority over other fans? It's amazing to me how seemingly grown and rational adults still cling to "jocks vs. geeks vs. nerds vs. stoners" pre-teen junior high school tribalism. What sort of fan support do you really think Ryno is going to bring in? I'm guessing none. What kind of revenue streams can a manager create? I mean Ryno would bank being a spokesmen for products and [expletive], but a fan doesn't buy a ticket because of a manager. I was actually invited to an Iowa Cubs game and told I should go so I could see Sandberg manage. I would not pay to go see a manager, but I bet there are plenty of... what should we call them... meatheads perhaps that would.

    I like the song. Vedder at Wrigley Field = Heaven Shudder at what those tickets will cost, though. Cheap seats were like $100 in Minnesota. Can't imagine what they would be in Wrigley.

    I think it's good advice in life to not trust anyone named Larry...i.e. Larry Luccino and Larry from Three's Company DO YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENS LARRY I like this avenue... Take a crow bar to Luchino's squat Hispanic neighbor's car. That'll teach him.

    My thing with the Nomar trade is I still think we won it. We didn't get as much as we would have liked out of Nomar, but The Red Sox and Expos got even less out what we gave them. Of course Orlando Cabrera was a huge part of Red Sox 2004 ALCS. But does anyone really regret giving up Alex Gonzalez, Francis Beltran, Justin Jones, or Brendan Harris? We also got Murton out of that deal, who was a young, somewhat regarded prospect at the time who later helped net us Rich Harden who was huge for us in 2008. This is only vaguely relevant, but I recall Hendry "sneaking" Murton into the trade and Theo not being aware of Murton being traded until after it was all said and done. I wouldn't have thought that could happen. Anyone else remember this or should I just file it into crazy made up [expletive] I now pass off as real life memories?

    Really not sure what way to go here.... I could rename daughter #3 Jason McLeod or I could wait until a field manager is named and go with that.... Either way, I think unborn #4 will be Starlin. Just easier if its actually on the birth certificate.

    I see two sides of the coin to all of this. I'm not going to dance around and get all drunk because we signed a GM. Teams sign GMs all the time. Yes he's had tremendous success but who knows what's going to happen. I will dance around and go nuts when the Cubs win divisions, NLCSs and maybe a WS or two. That said, I have been living on NSBB to get updates and info. I have also changed my firstborn's name to Theo Epstein. She's pissed.

    I told my wife I'm not sure why I put myself through that again. But really, eight years later, I am more disgusted by human behavior than the outcome of a sporting event. I don't care if Bartman ran on to the field and went Dikembe Mutombo on Kenny Lofton, screaming "I'm going to F'in kill you" at him is still wrong.

    I was a big fan of Brant Brown and still bristle at the notion that "He almost cost us going to the playoffs!". Did Beck not walk the bases loaded? And I recall there were two Fridays in a row Brant Brown hit a GW HR in the last at bat. Wish more people remembered that about Brant Brown. Yeah, I guess I am an official Brant Brown apologist.
