Oh, I also thought that the new camera angle from the upper deck was interesting to see. Also, the clips where they took all the other fans including Bartman out of the clip was neat. Alou definitely was going to catch that ball.

The only thing about 2003 that still makes me mad is that Mark Prior was *that* [expletive] good and it was the *only* year we got to see it.

QFT

That's the only thing that "hurt" me watching that documentary. Calfzilla. Damnit I miss him.

and seriously, you guys really are that upset over a baseball game from 8 years ago that you can't even bear to watch this?

Yes.

i don't know if you're just trying to be the fanningest fan that ever fanned, or if you truly have so little going on in your life that you allow baseball games involving strangers from a decade ago to devastate you. either way, pretty sad.

Nah, watched it all the way through. At first, I thought it was just going to be a re-hash of what they did with the "don't blame bartman" piece from a few years ago.

Later, I realized they had some interesting new material to present.

I think ultimately it was a nicely done 30 for 30 piece. Some of these have been interesting to me, and others I've just let pass by. Obviously I'm biased, but I enjoyed this one.

I really feel bad for Bartman, even more than I did before. I can put myself in his shoes, easily.

It's not like he has to watch.

I'm sure he can't completely avoid ESPN... and the promos have been running every break for the last week.

Seriously?

I'm a huge sports fan and I NEVER have ESPN on. Outside of it being on at a sports bar or something, the only time I watch ESPN is when they air a game I want to watch.

I haven't even seen one promo for this 30 for 30.

So yea, I'm pretty sure he can completely avoid ESPN.

:( tivo negligence, i thought i was recording this at at 10pm tonight but the next showing is actually 10pm on thursday. i guess i will get my gloom and doom fix by reading the reviews here. i did manage to record the game correctly and i think it'll be helpful to watch that first. i will have a hard time with the parts about how bartman got picked on, how upset he was, etc. although it would make the story less interesting, i wish he had just been some drunk idiot who didn't really care about the cubs. i'm sure he's fine nowadays, but still, watching someone's favorite thing get destroyed forever is not so pleasant.

i thought it was good. the fan cam footage was great, it really put you into the atmosphere of the game.

also, the best part was when they showed alou in the seats watching his DR team, with aramis ramirez sitting behind him sucking on a lollipop.

Can somebody who watched this explain what their motivation was behind wanting to see it?

1) I love 30 for 30

2) I wanted to see all the new footage of Bartman from the stands and stuff.

Not mad. And the interview with the security lady was pretty touching. This one had a good amount of heart when all was said and done.

i guess an analogy is that i don't like flying very much but i'm kind of obsessed with plane crashes? also, i usually watch 30 for 30 even if it's a topic i don't care about (the two escobars) so of course i will watch this.

The same reason I watch any documentary about something that interests me. The Cubs interest me. Baseball interests me. Baseball history interests me.

This isn't Ken Burns baseball. You lived through it.

I just choose not to watch it because I know I'd get all riled up again. To wait pretty much your entire life, from the time you knew what baseball was, to see the Cubs in the World Series and then get that close only to have it all ripped away? 2003 was the year that broke me. After that NLCS I knew I'd never live to see the Cubs in the World Series.

And yes, I know there are fans here that lived through 1984, and even 1969. I'm just saying this is the moment that did it for me. Your results may vary.

I was alive when they fixed the Hubble telescope, when Jordan played AA baseball, and when 9/11 happened. Should I not watch documentaries about those things?

You think those are comparable situations?

Agreed, this was way worse than all of those. Except Jordan trying to play baseball.

What difference does it make? Your problem is apparently that because we "lived" through something we shouldn't want to watch a documentary about it.

I'm saying there's nothing to learn from it, especially when it sounds like interviews from '03 Cubs were minimal.

Interesting statement for you to make since you didn't see the thing. I learned a good deal from it. It was interesting to hear the interviews of the people that were literally right next to him and what they were saying to Steve afterward and what he was saying to them. Similarly, it was neat to find out from the interviews with the security guards what they did to help him escape that night (including one of them telling the story about taking Steve to their apartment and him wanting to watch Sportscenter). Some of the new footage from fans in the stands of the actual play was cool.

i haven't seen it but i do hope there is a point to it other than "wow, poor steve." not that it'll stop me, but i feel a little guilty watching a film based on someone who clearly does not want any of this attention, especially years after the fact when it hasn't been a big story for a while and the average person would not otherwise recognize him. if someone made a documentary about the worst humiliation of my life, i'd probably be unhappy even if there was serious money involved (and i don't think he has ever accepted any).
