Besides the fact that it's approaching 100 years without any major rehab efforts, it's just too limited for today's MLB needs. It's going to need major renovation sooner rather than later.

Have no idea how profitable some of these reality shows are, but I'd think one based on the rehab process of a national landmark that happens to house of the most popular franchises in American sports would be a marketable venture. That could help allay the costs.

It's a clever idea, but considering renovation is rumored to cost in the hundreds of millions of dollars, I can't see them get more than a couple million back from that. but I guess every little bit helps, and that'd be pretty cool to watch.

Sell it to the White Sox, build new suburban park with easily exploitable dimensional quirks, spend the difference on Pujols.

A suburban park is the worst idea ever and people who bring up the idea should be banned from life.

Fine. Just take the Cell as a trade-in.

ban him!!!

So we stinks and Wrigley stinks?

You have 53 posts, and I think at least 30 of them involve the words "stinks". Probably time to move on to another joke.

In my opinion, tear down everything in the grandstands and rebuild it. The bleachers are relatively new and are more than adequate.

Agreed but I would also take down the crappy, buzzing, rusty old scoreboard and replace it with something tasteful. Same general look&feel plsu a video board for replays and stats.

The sox screwed themselves by building a plain, boring park at a time right before the newer-styled parks were introduced Like Camden Yard and Turner Field. I actually like the Cell just for the stuff they have for kids. The restaurant in RF is nice too.

The only reason we need a video board is for advertising dollars. They're fairly worthless in baseball stadiums

I like the stats and I'm a sucker for those cheesy games they play between innings. I tend to take the kids a lot though and my 3 year old daughter loves that stuff.

It's sad but I've been to more games at the Cell and Miller Park this year and last, despite being a season ticket holder.

You need a sherpa to guide you to the seats on the upper deck, but Comiskular's lower level concourse and outfield seats are great, especially for the price.

If you wanna talk about bland, let's talk about Busch III. Who builds a park directly underneath two freeways and positions it to show only half the skyline? Should've torn down the Ed Jones dome, built it there and moved the Rams to Busch II.

What other half of the skyline are you talking about? You see the arch and the tall buildings, there's nothing else to see.

It had been so long since I had been to Wrigley, that I had forgotten/never noticed that the scoreboard doesn't actually show how many runs each team has. In a 12-6 game that made things tricky, including the lady behind us who was convinced that the hits counter in the middle was the score for several innings.

Anyway, I get the complaints about Wrigley, but I'm not sure why they're heard so loudly. There's inconveniences to every stadium, and all of Wrigley's problems come when you're out of your seat. I wouldn't be heartbroken if they built a new park somewhere else in the city, but that won't happen for a number of reasons. The renovations/triangle building look pretty sweet, so let's just do that until we get good enough that ticket prices get jacked high enough to want a stadium with more seats.

It's bizarre to compliment the Cell in the same post you're criticizing Busch III for poor placement and sightlines.

Can anyone that lives more than 100 miles from St. Louis point out one recognizable building in downtown St. Louis other than the Arch and the city hall building. I've been to St. Louis several times and seen their skyline on a number of occasions, but trying to picture the skyline, all I can visualize is those 2 landmarks and a bunch of generic buildings.

Maybe you should learn how to add up to 12.

The StL skyline runs more east-west than north-south. If you look at from a high point like O'Fallon Park on the northside or across the river from Granite City you'll see what I'm talking about.

But yeah, putting Busch on Washington Avenue wouldn't have helped that. I'd just rather watch the Rams outside than in a glorified convention center.

Having it face southeast instead of northeast has to be one of the biggest blunders in the history of stadia. Doesn't mean it's not a comfortable, convenient place to watch the Sox lose.

Turner Field? Really? It's easily one of the worst "new" stadiums in MLB.

Isn't it just some [expletive] they cobbled together out the Olympic leftovers?

Yup. It's ostensibly a newer, nicer cookie-cutter. I haven't been to every single new stadium -- though nearly all of them -- but it's almost certainly my least favorite post-Camden stadium. In fact, outside of the absolute crap (Florida, Tampa Bay, Oakland)* I'm not sure it's better than any stadium currently in existence.

*I can't include Toronto, because, the only time I was there, the retractable roof was amazingly state-of-the-art.

I love Wrigley and would hate to see the Cubs move, but you'd have to be a completely ignorant moron not to realize it doesn't need some renovation.

Agreed, but it is far from a dump IMO.

From the player's perspective, it's a dump

There was some talk about digging deep under the playing surface to construct batting cages, larger weight rooms, etc. Aside from the structural problems that need to be investigated, I think they'll find that Wrigley is built on top of an ancient burial ground and there will be tons of lawsuits to halt the desecration of the burial grounds. This will take years to get through the courts and, aside from that, people will say that these burial grounds are the reason the Cubs have never won at Wrigley. There's a mini-series (for tv, not the baseball postseason) in there somewhere.

But I digress. . .

has anybody in the Chicago land area (newspaper/media) suggested rebuilding each side from dugout up and keep the front facade and the bleachers, thus giving players a new lockeroom and removing the steel girders out of view of the fans?

I'm pretty sure nobody has ever thought of that.
