The new deal will apparently have the amnesty clause because KC Johnson tweeted that the Bulls will be monitoring amnesty pick ups for a SG they can sign for the veteran minimum. I'm assuming that the player can't get more than their previous contract, similar to waivers in baseball, so there won't be any motivation for teams or the player to sign more than the minimum. So it will be about making the best pitch to whoever we want. I think we have a pretty good pitch for potential SGs. His name is Kieth Bogans.

WF22, not getting hot and bothered about the speculated amnesty options at SG. I need a comprehensive Bulls offseason post outlining our options w/r/t to the new CBA deal--thanks bro.

No they really don't.

Another detail I just read. D-Rose will get paid:

ZachLowe_SI Tweak for players: Rookies eligible for extensions could get one worth 30% of cap level, up from 25%

Last year might have been Boozers most productive as a Bull, it's a possibity. If you have a chance to ditch that deal, you do it. He's only going to get worse.

Part of me wants to say give him one more year, but now that I think about it. I'm not sure another year will help because with the extension for Rose kicking in, we won't have much room to operate under the cap even if we cut Boozer.

And with stricter luxury tax penalties, you think Reinsdorf is paying the tax? Hell no

I think that helps the Bulls though. Reinsdorf doesn't have to feel pressure to get into the luxury tax in order to compete with teams like the Lakers, Knicks, etc. it's all about spending smarter now. On first glance it seems to me like superstars are even more valuable now. Or at least as valuable. The formula to build a winner relies more on spending smart and knowing when to let good but not great players go when they cost too much. Previously it was get your 2-3 superstars and then build by using the MLE every year and if you were a rich team you just keep adding.

Preemptive f-u to all the weiners who feel compelled to emphasize how little they care about the NBA, etc.

Some people like to go out of their way to make sure you know they don't like the NBA like it should effect my enthusiasm. [expletive] them.

Ouch

KCJHoop K.C Johnson

That MVP DRose won? Expected to take his max salary extension from $14.5M to $17.4M in Year One. And from $84.2M to $101.6M overall. Wow.

Gonna hurt the Bulls in the short and long term.

So I guess the amnesty clause is available for the remainder of the deal, but only for current deals. We may see it used in that case, but still not this year.

Yeah, that couldn't be any more of a perfect scenario for the Bulls. They can cut Boozer whenever he either tanks or they badly need the cap space (which neither one is this year).
