Well, at least we are still ahead of the 'Stros despite the fact that they swept us.

Also, any standout players in the draft this year worth being happy about bombing the season for?

Is it too early to start tracking the fecal league standings? Since we just got swept by one of the TWO teams still behind (ahead of) us, I think not.

Just for good measure, here's a link to 2011 MLB payroll by team, which shows the 3rd worst team sporting the 6th-highest payroll.

Also, I wasn't aware the White Sox's payroll is higher than the Cubs'.

ETA - I also didn't realize that the Twins' payroll is so high.

I sorta remember seeing somewhere that this is due to Silva not being on the team. Like it isn't reported in the final totals but the Cubs technically are higher I think.

Those opening day payroll lists are so dumb. They don't take into account contracts that have been eaten, nor mid-season trades that add or subtract payroll to teams, in order to actually compare what the team spends on players.

Oh good, the Cardinals' latest from-nowhere awesome ace pitcher gets to shut us down again. What fun.

I wasn't aware of any of those omissions. $125MM sounded low, but I just figured I thought so because I don't follow payroll numbers very closely. Where is a better spot to find payroll info?

Yea, I don't get the point of creating a payroll list like the one I linked if it doesn't include ALL of the money the team is spending on players that year. I guess that means the list isn't counting the money the Mets spend every year on Saberhagen and Bonilla either. Dumb.

I'm glad I read these posts before I added the payroll and projected dollars per win categories to the FLS.

Cots tends to give better and more detailed information although it also has its quirks (pro-rating signing bonuses for example). It has the Cubs at 134 million. The USA Today list gives you a very rough look at how teams stack up to each other while Cots will give you a much better player/team breakdown.

Yeti is the Zambrano of golf.

Though I gave up hope for this season weeks (months?) ago, I'd really like to see the Cubs beat the Cardinals.

This lineup is just hilarious; I bet Jaime Garcia is trembling.

He got rocked in his last outing, probably not gonna happen again.

I honestly am anxious to see this lineup tonight. Not that I think the Cubs will win, but to see LaMahieu, how Soto handles cleanup, if Colvin can do anything, etc.

If I watch this game with the same viewpoint that I watch a minor league game, it is more enjoyable.

CUBS are 15-3 when they allow fewer than 4 runs.... 8-28 when they don't

Sometimes stats do tell the tale.

I might have missed it, but is Ramirez out for any length of time?
