To think Hendry told us that Quade was the man for the job based on that ridiculously overhyped finish last year is pathetic. Quade looks like a little league coach out there. And, no, I did not say Ryno should have gotten the job. However, I feel pretty confident in saying this team would be far more sound with Ryno calling the shots.

Nice to see Tom Rickett's making a difference

Sandberg wouldn't have let Marmol blow the save!!!

Earl Weaver couldn't have managed this team to a winning record.

As bad as this season is going, Sandberg not being the manager is one of the few bright spots.

I would have enjoyed seeing him get blamed.

Me too, but it wouldn't have happened.

The injury excuses would be out in full force. Everyone would give him a pass and would have raised an uproar if he got canned after this season.

With Quade, I don't think many people would care if he gets fired in the offseason.

I wouldn't. I guess I just don't see the ill will people have towards Ryno now for this.

I dont hold any ill will towards Ryno, but I didnt like the way he left. It is not like he was more qualified then Quade and was slighted.

As for the original post in this thread... #-o

Absolutely.

And as for the post that started this thread...at least I can say that you do inspire responses with your posts.

Dude, not trying to combine this with the other thread, but what do you want from Rickett's to this point? Based on resumes, Quade was more qualified than Ryno-and I'm no Quade apologist by any means.

Do you want an owner who in his first year riles the Chicago press and fires his manager midway into his first season? Are you a Redskins fan too?

We're all frustrated with the state of the franchise right now, but piling on Ricketts for this mess is misguided at best.

maybe they saw the train wreck of a season coming and didn't want to put Sandberg through that. that might be giving them to much credit though.

People just want to see some blood after all the recent disappointments. I would have fired Hendry, but coming in hacking and slashing before a season that wasn't going anywhere regardless wouldn't have made much of a difference.

At this point I'm not at all convinced Ryno would have been any worse than Quade, but that's not an endorsement by any means.

I wanted Bobby V., but that was never going to happen.

I feel confident if Ryne Sandberg was named Ryne Henderson he wouldn't have been considered for the job.

I dont get all the sandberg hate, its like Steve Stone all over again. Let alone his playing career, he was by all accounts a pretty decent manager for our system won a couple of manager of the year awards etc. got alot out of the players and taught the fundamentals of the game. I'm not saying he's better than Quade. The cubs probably made the right choice but Hendry pretty much promised him the job only to give it to someone else, so its understandable why he was miffed. Was he the ego maniac or poor manager some are portraying him to be? I say hardly.

I don't know about "promised him the job". I think Hendry told him he needed some minor league experience if he wanted to be considered for a major league managing job. I think that's perfectly reasonable as is letting him get his feet wet in the bigs as a bench coach rather than making him a manager. I thought the way Sandberg reacted to not being named manager was a bit much and didn't do him any favors in the eyes of those who were already teped about him to begin with.

He's my favorite player of all time but based on his apparent management style in the minors and the handful of articles he wrote for yahoo, I definitely wouldn't want him managing the Cubs.

Yeah. I think his attitude toward the Cubs wouldn't be quite so snippy if that were the case.

Exactly. Sandberg responded (albeit as diplomatically possible) like he was petulantly stunned that 4 years of minor league management didn't land him the job. It sounds in no way like he was "promised the job" after such relatively little coaching/managing experience except in his own mind.
