  1. Exactly. And when they hear the owner say injuries are the cause, they see him saying he thinks this is a good team if it were not for those injuries. They feel as if he is giving Hendry and Quade a pass and there is no need for change, which is baffling and scary.
  2. Exactly my point. Most fans know Hendry has failed miserably and to hear Ricketts say: "Well, we are fine, just injured" is only going to infuriate fans who know the truth. That being that this team has gotten progressively worse since the end of 2008. Bad move after bad move. Injuries have nothing to do with it.
  3. How do you know he hasn't? Do you think he should or would do it publicly? Not by name, but by saying that everyone is being looked at to the media would show a very apathetic fanbase he is not liking what he is seeing. He has to see the fans are staying away and apathy has set in. For him to come out and say injuries (Again, whether he meant that or not) is the cause for this teams suckage, is silly and not what the fans want to hear.
  4. Well, I agree with the part about not telling the media he knew his team sucked and .500 would be great for this bunch. However, IF he knew that going into the season this was a bad team, he HAS to know that Hendry is the architect that put these last THREE teams together. I just wish he would have been more to the point and put people in the organization on notice. The honeymoon is over.
  5. Well, if Ricketts only goal this year was to be .500 and hope for the best, I would certainly hope he'd keep that part to himself. Talk about a good way to enrage an already testy (although increasingly apathetic) fanbase. But I don't know about that. Part of me feels he really thought this team could make noise, which is a scary thought.
  6. Read that again. Meaning that top organiztions do not use: "injuries" as an excuse when things go bad. They say everyone has injuries and we have to play better. They consistently win because they have the talent to overcome injuries and do not have to use the injury card. You got all that from Ricketts's quote? All of what? He said: "We have injuries and we will be fine". He is blaming this mess on injuries? If Randy Wells and Cash were healthy all year, this team still stinks. To say this team has more holes than swiss cheese would be an understatement. Injuries are preventing the Cubs from winning 75-80 games instead of 65-70.
  7. Read that again. Meaning that top organiztions do not use: "injuries" as an excuse when things go bad. They say everyone has injuries and we have to play better. They consistently win because they have the talent to overcome injuries and do not have to use the injury card.
  8. And Ricketts could simply say: "I am evaluating everyone and lets leave it that". After that, say: "Thanks, guys", and walk away. He really sounds like an idiot (whether he meant what he said or not) to use the injury card as an excuse for this horrid team.
  9. He would have been wise to be honest and say that this season has been far less than he had hoped for and that everyone here is to blame. You do not see organizations that win consistently blame injuries for bad seasons. The Cardinals have injuries but there they are at the top of the standings. That is not coincidence, that is called having depth to fall back on via good drafting and good free agent signings. Sure, if you lose players of the magnitude of say a Starlin Castro you'll have some drop off. But we are talking about the Randy Wells and Cashners of the world (Now Garza). The first two are not exactly Cy Young candidates. Wells is a journeyman and Casher is just getting his career off the ground. These guys were not the rocks that were going to carry this team to the playoffs this year. This mess (as most of know) is the creation of Jim Hendry. Now we have all this money to spend in the off season and we have to see Hendry at the controls of where it is spent. I say that Hendry is going to be at the controls because there is very little chance Ricketts launches him before the 2012 season because there is this fantasy (and it is just that, fantasy) that Pujols is coming here and we want "stability in the front office". If that is the case, can Hendry now because Pujols would be an absolute fool to come here given the current climate of the organization.
  10. During a brief meeting with the media before Wednesday's game, Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts was asked what was wrong with his team. "Nothing," he replied. "Just a lot of injuries. We'll be fine". http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0602-cubs-astros-chicago--20110601,0,4281482.story And you have a team with a serious talent problem, a terrible GM and a triple A at best manager, Tom. But, hey, keep making excuses. So glad we have a good owner
  11. To think Hendry told us that Quade was the man for the job based on that ridiculously overhyped finish last year is pathetic. Quade looks like a little league coach out there. And, no, I did not say Ryno should have gotten the job. However, I feel pretty confident in saying this team would be far more sound with Ryno calling the shots. Nice to see Tom Rickett's making a difference
